Which episode would you watch them film?

Let's say that you can Quantum Leap back to the 1960s and be on the set to watch them filming ONE episode of TOS... Which one do you pick and why? Your favorite episode? One that you think went really wrong, to understand just where they screwed up? One that has a really cute guest actor or actress?

Alternatively, you can make a change in history and alter ONE TOS episode that went bad. Which episode do you change and how?

It might be interesting to see the filming of "Shore Leave." Lots of location shooting at Africa USA on that one, and supposedly there were rewrites going on on-location (GR supposedly was doing some sitting at the base of a tree). I'd be neat to see all the action scenes, the tiger, and just gawk at Emily Banks in general.

For the one that went wrong... Maybe "The Alternative Factor," just to see if it could be saved? I dunno, I'd get John Barrymore to show up somehow, just to see if it made any difference.

"Friday's Child" is not a favorite ep, but Julie Newmar AND Vasquez Rocks? Tempting.

As for cross-temporal fixes . . . well, there's probably no way to save "Turnabout Intruder," but maybe you could at least strike out that one troublesome line that (arguably) implies that Starfleet has no female starship captains in Kirk's era . . ..

"The Enemy Within" would be cool if it meant hanging out with the young Richard Matheson as well as the TOS cast.

I would like to see how they made The Doomsday Machine for the sole purpose of seeing what the hell the film crew used as the doomsday machine. Is it even supposed to be a ship? :)

I agree with the post above about "Shore Leave." The whole post.

Agreed with you gentlemen. My main interest would be seeing the filming locations that no longer exist.

The Shore Leave filming location is very difficult to access nowadays because it's a tiger preserve, and looks like the contours have all been washed away over the years.

I've never been able to scope out The Alternative Factor's location either, although I suspect its just behind the "Gorn Rock", away from the carpark at Vazquez.

I'll add A Private Little War to the list. That location is off limits due to housing spreading across the area, angry locals who hate people snooping for film sites, and apparently an unresolved nuclear waste issue contaminating the area.

And, of course I'd love to have seen the RKO 40 acres lot, home to Miri, Archons, City etc...

I would have really loved to have been on set for "What Are Little Girls Made Of." For the excellent set design and stuff.

Yeah. :shifty:

Balance of Terror - best example of naval combat tactics and space combat in the series

As a warship myself, I heartily approve

I believe you have the same two words in your head as I have in mine: Wardrobe malfunction.

I would have liked to have seen the filming of "Arena" esp. during Kirk's fight with the Gorn. IMO and in the opinion of many others, it is a classic sci-fi moment.

So many to choose from. Just so many episodes were greats to me. I would choose The Ultimate Computer, just to see and experience how the production crew treated the great William Marshall, and how the cast Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelley worked with him from scene to scene. The actors were all on their A game in that episode, plus I would love to see what was it like at the commissary during lunch. Whether the actors are talking to one another or the production team doing the same thing.

That episode is not my favorite but it's one where I would like to experience the shooting.

"The Alternative Factor." The production memos provide a terrific window into what must have been a mess of a production, but actually getting to watch the process would be fascinating.

Very interesting answers, everyone! I'm really enjoying hearing your choices and your reasoning.

Oh, THAT'S interesting! I had no idea that location wasn't available to the public any more. All the more reason to go!

Sounds like someone wants to rescue the penis rock from the dumpster! ;)
