My sentiment has nothing to do with Worf. It has to do with showing a former Enterprise crewmate of Picard’s (Worf, LaForge, Riker, Beverly, etc.) who is still in Starfleet and could have potentially helped him with his quest without him resorting to get that help from a physically, emotionally and mentally damaged former officer, just so Picard could keep his former friends out of it.

that’s a pretty fair point. I don’t think they wanted it to read that way but that is definitely a follow-on implication of what he said. I don’t *think* he views Raffi as disposable but because we didn’t see the formation of their relationship and just the fallout and effects on her it can look that way.

Have some mercy on that dead horse. Raffi came along for her own reasons, Picard just went to her to get a ship. And while the journey is proving rough, her involvement is getting her out of the rut she's been wallowing in since she was fired from Starfleet. She came into this situation with less to lose and more to gain than Picard's old Enterprise crew would have.

Picard's mission is unauthorized. If Worf is still in Starfleet, then Picard asking Worf to help him is asking him to potentially throw away his career.

Picard tried to go through proper Starfleet channels and he was cut off at the pass. If he continued to try to go through proper channels, they might not have said yes, they would've delayed, and nothing would've gotten done.

Here's what you have to know about bureaucracy: if you want it and it makes sense, it has two strikes against it already when it comes to people like them. They fixate on the letter of the law, not the spirit, because they only know how to follow the letter. They follow it verbatim. If they don't, they lose their job, it goes on their record, and that's what they're thinking of. People who think like that aren't going to help Picard. At all. They're out for their own neck.

I think people who have issues with Picard making the choices he made in PIC are thinking he should've done what Kirk did in TSFS. Gather the old crew for an unauthorized mission. But the situation isn't quite the same. All of Kirk's crew was already on the Enterprise. He didn't have to gather them. They were already there. And even Kirk said, "Doctor McCoy and I have to do this, the rest of you do not." But they went with Kirk anyway.

Rios is paid and already has an unregistered ship. No need to worry about him breaking the law. He's already there. Musiker deals with Rios all the time. They're friends. So I'm guessing she's no saint either. After she connected Picard with Rios, she decided to tag along for her own selfish reasons. Those reasons didn't pan through. So now she's on the La Sirena because she has nowhere else to go. Except back to a life she hated.

I had the wildest thought. What if we meet at/toward the end of the season Crusher, captain of the Enterprise-F, and she’s an adversary?

I don't see Beverly as all that threatening. And why would a doctor be in command of a ship that isn't a medical vessel?

Maybe she went full command track. and she doesn’t have to be eeeevil to be threatening, just be against whatever mission Picard is on and have the firepower to be a problem.

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't take Beverly seriously as a threat.

I’m not picturing her as the Big Bad villain of the story, just had a thought about her and the Enterprise as additional trouble for Our Heroes. If we really want to go there, maybe she’s really posed off about the divorce as well (with cause?) and is decidedly different than we saw her last. Gates has that white streak in her hair these days — maybe that’s her Cruella de Vil look?

Dunno, but I think we haven’t seen the last of either Crusher or the Enterprise in the overall story. Chabon has been cryptic about the ship and said nothing about her despite saying that Worf and Geordi won’t be back this season.

My guess is they talked about it but after the events of the last film and the psychological effect losing Data had on Picard he was reluctant to again get too close to any one member of his crew in case they also died.

We haven’t seen or heard of her since the series began. She’s either deceased and haunting him some way or still out there but not on a list of allies. That’s an opening for divorce and drama. Although I’d prefer it were an amicable, if definitive, uncoupling, not a bitter one.
