Which class do you prefer, the Akira or Luna Class?

This thread reminded me of the rather amusing situation regarding the Titan novel Fortune of War, in which the cover was supposed to be an image of the Titan, but somehow they mistakenly used an Akira class ship instead. It wasn't until the cover image was revealed to the general public that this mistake was noticed, at which point they just barely had time fix it. They did, and the published version had the proper Luna class Titan, though from what I hear the effort to make a new cover involved some quite literal eleventh hour type stuff.

Yet we never saw her fire any more than any other ship at any one time. It's like Voyager's second warp core and computer core, or the Defiant's landing gear. The art people designed it in, but the writers never knew/cared.
Yeah, true, sadly. Such missed potential. Much like all the amazing things that Doug Drexler envisioned for the Enterprise-J that never actually made it to the screen. In STO, the Akira is kind of nerfed too. I played it briefly when I was rolling up the ranks, but now I'm either using the E-J or STID Dreadnaught.
When one launcher can fire dispersal pattern sierra and launch 5-6 torpedoes at one time then having 15 seems like serious overkill.
You say that as if it's a bad thing. :)

Hey, Akiras are appearing in new episodes, now. We may see those sideways torpedo launchers yet.

And it's really more of an animator thing than a writer thing as far as "where the torpedos come from." Even as far back as FC, Jaeger put fifteen tubes on the damn thing, but in the actual movie, an animator needed to hallucinate up a sixteenth to make an angle work.

Works fine for me. Here's the Memory Beta page for the novel, the image is included there.

The image was already in your cache because you pulled it up properly. For anyone clicking it who hadn't looked at the actual page, the website's anti-image-linking feature kicks in.

I thought the Titan was a Galaxy Class myself till the novels came out.

When it was rumored that Riker and Troi were going to be in the ENT series finale, there was a lot of speculation that their scenes were going to take place on the Titan some time after Nemesis. I was betting that they would use an Akira class as the Titan specifically because that's what the NX-01 was based on. But then TATV happened.

I never thought the luna class was any kind of rip off of the akira. To me it's just the sovereign's version of the miranda, similar to the nebula being the galaxy's or the centaur excelsior relationship

What kinds of things?
His Congo looked to have a real secondary hull (that we saw by itself in a calendar as its own ship). That secondary hull had a rounded prow that would allow Archer and Daniels a good view of the underside of the J’s saucer…

My favorite Titan concept was this

Personally, I'm more partial to the Limeball, as prominently mentioned in Peter David's short story, "Shakedown." Which I envision as an updated version of the Daedalus class, with an ellipsoidal (rather than spherical) primary hull, a prolate spheroid, oriented with the long axis longitudinally. And painted a vivid green.

I don't particularly care about either of them but I do like that the Akira can apparently forward launch shuttles and then retrieve them from the rear, which is something I wish the Constellation-class could do.
