Which Bridge set is your favorite?

I'm really surprised at the negative comments stacking up reference the lighting in Generations. I thought it was magnificent; it certainly looks absolutely beautiful on my Blu-ray. I honestly think the TV style lighting would have looked fairly crappy on the silver screen.

I love the Generations bridge. They should have brought it in after Best of Both Worlds. It made the bridge look like the command centre for the flagship of the Federation. Rather than just a couple of extras right at the back, it got the crew right into the midst of the action.

Hello forum. This is my inaugural post, and a question I have been contemplating for a little while. The Season One set is my personal favorite. I like the dark walnut fittings, the flip-up control panels on the Captain's chair and the general 80s-ish-ness of it. Beige colors, fluorescent console lamps, and those padded walls make it look oh so inviting, too.

The Excelsior is my favorite bridge and also my favorite ship design.

I think Starfleet should go with 18th century naval uniforms in the next uniform issue. I love how they look on the bridge of a starship!

Personally, I preferred the revamped Enterprise-D bridge from Generations. I wish those alterations had been made years earlier.

I agree. Another good bridge set was from "All Good Things...". I also liked the idea of a third warp necelle...

I don't know the source of the interview, but I remember reading a while back that the big hold-back for the Generations-style bridge during the TV run was extra budget for the background actors (and wardrobe, etc.) to man the additional stations on a regular basis.

It's interesting how many 'Generations' bridge set fans there are. While I liked the changes, I felt the new colors were too cold. Gene Roddenberry wanted the Galaxy class ships to be warm and hotel-like, and I felt the new lighting and colors for the silver screen sullied his ideas. The set from Seasons 2-7 was just too plain for my taste. Everything was broad and beige, and lacking detail. At least in Season One, the wood tones added some visual interest. In my opinion, the hastily revised sets for certain episodes looked... well, hastily revised.

Well said.

I loved the Generations best. It felt the most like a genuine control center, with all the additional consoles on the side and the additional extras working at the bridge. The earlier versions weren't quite as active, so the bridge never felt as active.

I liked the Generations refit the best, but I'd enjoy it more if it had similar lighting to seasons 3-7. Everywhere on the ship seemed a bit dark for the film which seemed like overkill.

Each bridge set seemed to be lacking something. Season One lacked modernity, Seasons Two through Seven lacked personality, and Generations lacked warmth. To me, the Generations bridge had the best layout, while One had the warmth and relaxed feel. Somehow, combine those bridges with a modern finish, and you'd have a winner.

They DID raise the center area on to two steps in Generations, didn't they? I forgot about that... Kept the ramps coming down the sides, just so you could go back up two step to get to the center chairs...

Um... Save the two un-necessary stations on either side, it's the same layout.

The steps don't count? And I consider the additions of the workstations to be a layout change.

Don't forget about the additional floor lighting.... too bad they trashed the ship after they finally got the look right.... go figure.

I found they finally made the Enterprise relate to the Defiant, Voyager and the rest of the ships of that time.

That's another thing. To me, the spirit of The Next Generation was spoiled when the decision was made to destroy the Enterprise-D. That ship was the star of the show and I don't care what anyone else says to the contrary. The D was a renaissance ship, built to do everything and do it well. The E was just a lesser vessel, seemingly introduced for the sake of change.

True, but even in the ship's destruction it still showed it's full abilities.... it separated properly, the saucer made a text book emergency landing (well text book based on the TNG Technical Manual) and when Picard was making his final log at the end, he noted that they suffered very few casualties, considering half the ship blew up and crashed into a planet from orbital distance..... even Spot made it out in one piece.

Cudos to the Enterprise D.... I doubt any other starship could pull that off. All the crew would have been killed in most other starships.... or at the very least, the majority of the crew.
