Which 3 characters would you have killed off in “Caretaker”?…

Kes could instead find love with the female Vulcan nurse, and Kes would've stay on as a crew member for the whole series.

Kinda a different route to Kes's exploration of her telepathic abilities. My mind to your mind, indeed. Although it'd have to be done carefully, so as not to turn her into T'Pol.

I would've killed Kim (of course), Neelix (fun, but not essential), and replace Tuvok the stereotypical Vulcan with a slightly less felt-out species, like an Andorian.

IMO Paris, Kes, and Kim never added any value to the show whatsoever, so I woulda killed off all of them in Caretaker.

Rethinking this, I'd have killed off all the Starfleet and Maquis. Instead the show is about Neelix, Kes and the Ocampa finding out about the Federation, learning how Voyager works (with the help from The Doctor) and deciding to take the ship back to Earth.

Nah, that would be stupid.

Honestly, I do think that the right characters were killed off in "Caretaker". I simply can't imagine Voyager without the main characters we had.

Lynx:

I agree. Would've killed off the same characters, too. Maybe I would've added Neelix as an early casualty, as well.

You know, this is slightly off-topic, but I believe Robert Picardo first auditioned for the role of Neelix. I always thought the role of the Doctor and Neelix should've been combined. Neelix could've been part of an interstellar version of our "Doctor Without Borders," with superior medical skills than a regular Starfleet doctor and even the Vidiians. And he still could've been the ship's cook, serving as nutritionist to the stars! Instead, Neelix wound up being Cookie in space.

I think I have one of them but it's hard finding the others in bookstores (nothing I like more than actually buying a book there and then, it's not the same as ordering it from Amazon).

Ebay is a great thing. The ones you are looking for are

Homecoming
The Farther Shore
Spirit Walk Book One - Old Wounds
Spirit Walk Book Two - Enemy of My Enemy

All 4 are by Christie Golden. I have over 250 Star Trek novels; so if you have a hard time finding them and just want to borrow them from me, I have no problem sending them to you to read and then you simply shipping them back to me when you are done.

Ahh, Homecoming is the one I have, I think. I'll have to dig out my Trek books and check I haven't actually got any of the others already. Have done a quick search on Amazon and can get them all really cheaply so I might do that, thanks for the offer though. :)

Chakotay, the Chief Engineer, and the CMO. Janeway's XO would have died, too, but I think by taking away the Maquis' inspirational leader (:guffaw:) you would have a much more tense and interesting dynamic between the Starfleet crew and the Maquis crew. B'Elanna would be Chakotay's second, and is forced into a leadership role upon his death. She convinces the Maquis to join Voyager's crew, which would have provided ample tension between her and the more fiercely anti-Starfleet Tom Paris. Speaking of which...

Tom Paris would have been Nick Locarno (royalties be damned!), or "Tom Paris" would have been an alias Locarno assumed following his escape from a Federation prison after being convicted for Joshua Albert's death (for negligent homicide or whatever the appropriate charge would be), which led to his joining the Maquis.

Oh, and I wouldn't have killed Neelix or Kes, because they never would have existed. :p
