Where's the universal translator?

The lack of a UT in JJTrek is yet another reason to consider that the Abramsverse is a completely separate alternate universe in and of itself. There are so many differences even before Nero arrives, that this can't be the same place that our heroes from TOS are originally from.

We know nothing of starships from the 2230s. Do I really need to point this out again?

It is a good think millions of viewers agree with me that this movie was good. Many of them are here in North Carolina, which still surprises me.

Keep pointing it out. That doesn't bother me. The Kelvin looks more advanced that anything from TOS. It looks like a TMP refit era ship. According to the shuttle count and the apparent 800+ crew capacity, it is at least twice or more the size of any ship we know of from the TOS era. That, to me, is an inconcistency. Why would Starfleet go from 80+/- crew capacity NX-01 to a 10x larger, 800+ crew Kelvin, then back down to a half the size, 400+ crew Constitution class design? It makes no logical sense. And I have heard the "survey vessel" argument. However, there's no evidence on screen to support the theorey that the Kelvin was a survey vessel. For all we know, it was just another ______-class starship on patrol at the Klingon neutral zone. I will continue to subscribe to the theory that the Abramsverse was already an alternate universe long before Nero came along and mucked it up. It makes me feel better and reconciles the differences I mentioned.
