Oh, there's an awful lot of TV that I've enjoyed for an hour and have no interest in watching twice. Nothing special about DW in that regard.
even when Doctor Who is bad, its still good lol.
The biggest problem with "The Doctor's Daughter" is not that it's bad, it's that it's mediocre. An amazing premise wasted on an episode that doesn't go anywhere or do anything with it. It's not awful -- it's just not good.

Martha's unnecessary presence and Freema's horrid acting make it pretty damned awful, actually. Though it isn't the worst of the RTD era by a long shot.

My nickname for Martha is Martha the Strong because of all the hard stuff she had to take upon herself to do. She helped save the world.
I'm sure Ivonova won't mind sharing the NicknameMy nickname for Martha is Martha the Strong because of all the hard stuff she had to take upon herself to do. She helped save the world.
Freema is a very talented, and certainly very beautiful actress, but there is only so far you can go when the material the writers give you is shit.
Martha suffered from "NOT ROSE! GOD, WE MISS ROSE!" fatigue. She was given very little in the way of personality and character beyond "loves the doctor". The actress did what she could. They don't write their lines or control their plots.
Martha was at her best in the Human Nature/Family Of Blood two-parter. Here she was given some better than usual scenes, and stuff for her to do.
I agree, her presence in The Doctor's Daughter is puzzling. Why make such a big deal out of "MARTHA IS BACK, WHISKED AWAY WITH THE DOCTOR if all you are going to do is instantly seperate her from him and film all her scenes with her and a fish-man? Again, the actress didn't write that sort of nonsense.
Her final cameo in The End Of Time pt. 2 was hackery at best and racist at worst. I'd love to see what Freema could do with a different character. I imagine her cast as Rose in "Rose/End of the World/Unquiet Dead" or Donna in "Runaway Bride/Partners In Crime/Fires of Pompei" and feel certain Martha's biggest problem was shit writing, not shit acting.
Let me ask this to those who blame the actress: if the scripts stayed the same, do you feel a different actress would have been able to make Martha a golden, memorable, lovable character ala Rose/Donna/Amy? What is it in the script about Martha you love so dearly that Freema was apparently screwing up?
i actually liked the fact Martha got away from Tom. she fell for a different Tom, a Tom from a timeline that doesn't exist and never existed. she should never have been on the verge of marrying him so quickly.
and what's racist about pairing her with Mickey?
