@Timo, you don't know me in life, so I take GREAT offense at you calling me "incredibly sexist" and saying that I'm "babbling about sexual harassment" just for acknowledging the simple reality that most women would not be comfortable with a man looking up their skirts. You saying that is NOT okay. You do not know me, and you simply do not have enough information just from my posts here to determine whether or not I am sexist.

I think I deserve an apology from you.

I have no idea who you are. I know what you said. I think you are expressing you sentiments in a fashion that fundamentally promotes sexism while, yes, obviously trying to achieve the opposite*. I don't think I can let things like that stand: the attitudes of people today are nothing short of disgusting to begin with, hatred being the preferred solution for eliminating hatred.

That said, I do apologize for offending you; this was clearly not in any proportion to the degree to which you perhaps offended me and the world, probably unwittingly to boot. And while I seriously wanted to provoke a reaction, I regret making you a casualty; it was not you, it was what you said that was incredibly sexist. Although not factually wrong, of course.

The "simple reality" cuts both ways. As does sexual harassment, which is a pretty serious charge (although easily abused, too). Let's not promote it from the wrong end beyond this.

(Factually, it would of course have been impossible for Rand to climb ahead of Kirk, back in the sixties. But that's exactly the sort of sexism that this world could do without.)

    * Which is essentially what I end up doing, from the other end. There's no way this can even start well, let alone end well. And I am sorry about that.

Control consoles are usually not found in rec. rooms. It looks like a foyer or air-lock entry room to some sort of medical laboratory. If a foyer or airlock is needed, then this usually means that the lab has something unique about it such as a sterile environment and/or infectious diseases. Note that McCoy is wearing his short sleeve tunic which he wears for medical activities. The evidence is that Deck 3 is where both McCoy and Spock have their quarters (based on both room wall plaques, unless 3F means another deck like Deck 5...:shifty:). Deck 3 also has Recreational Room 6 (after Spock's quarters on the Kirk's left ;)). A medical lab on Deck 3 could explain that McCoy wanted quarters near this lab. Size-wise, I don't think this fits on Deck 3 (unless Deck 2 was demolished during the Bridge refit, old Deck 3 became new Deck 2, and old Deck 4 is now new Deck 3, etc.) YMMV :).

...Perhaps McCoy just got his new medical tunic for the day from the fabricator, located in a fabricator booth on every relevant deck? Not every ship can afford those in every cabin. Especially not those where the funds go to the colorful new uniforms to all, rather than to flashy interiors!

Only in TOS could we turn a thread about a mystery ladder into a fight.

This is why we can't have nice things.

    Move along.

Yeah... I have to say enlisted personnel are usually not crazy about higher-ups "visiting" their shop unannounced. That said, if it's the captain, good chance you're OK. If it's the XO popping in for a "visit," somebody's day is probably about to be ruined.

Back to the ladder: why use a ladder instead of high speed turbolifts assuming normal operating conditions? Two main reasons are:
    1. Speed. Your starting point and finish point are close to each other but only up/down one or two decks. Quicker to use a ladder.
    2. Exercise. You want the exercise; similar to our work environment where we are encouraged to take the stairs instead of the elevator.

After Kirk emerges, he continues walking forcing McCoy to keep up with him. Based on the conversation, he is not visiting either McCoy or Spock. The walk down the corridor makes me think he is not taking the ladder for speed. So, I feel he takes the ladder for exercise, either: briskly walking the ship on his preferred path; or going to his quarters (the deck has officer's quarters), a meeting in a briefing room, the turbolift to the bridge (no standard ladder access), a rec. room or mess room. Knowing Kirk's over-eating history of never missing a meal ;), plus Chapel is feeding Spock, and McCoy is off in the same direction to something too all at the same time, so it might be a mealtime like lunch.

Where is he coming from? Not enough evidence from either current conversations, observed traffic flow or previous scenes. :brickwall:

If he stays in the corridors (i.e. he doesn't drop in to a working area), then he is seen, available for pleasantries, etc. If Spock shows up, then look busy, fast. :vulcan:

Don't they fight in the other boards?

Are they all pleasant and good to each other like in TNG?:):)

Spock's never going to be going up and down ladders to catch someone up to no good.
I'm trying to think if I ever saw him going down a ladder between decks or a jefferies tube? I can see Scotty in my minds-eye....
I just cant remember Spock getting his hands dirty on board ship. Maybe the time with the M5...

It was just a piece of good staging to show a "real" working ship with multiple levels, and a virile, active captain who doesn't sit around reading Shakespeare.

I'll be the first to say TWOK (two ladders on his way to the Reactor Room). But he also got his hands dirty working in "Balance of Terror," both under his bridge console and down in the Phaser Control Room.

TOS has a certain flavor to its fights that's different than the other forums.
