Where does this sucess of the movie leave Picard, Data & the TNG?

Where does this sucess of the movie leave Picard, Data & the TNG?

Done. Kaput. Finito.

Unlikely in the longterm. Picard, Data, Worf, Sisko, Kira, Odo... these are all very strong characters that will likely be re-incorporated into the franchise at some point in the future, in some form or another.

For the moment, 'tis the season of "back to basics" reboots. But this is a stage in popular culture that will be temporary like any other.

Perhaps Spock Prime wasn't left in the new universe for no reason.

Perhaps he'll try and get back to his own time by jumping dimensions etc in the third part of this trilogy.
The last scene would be a nice cameo of him appearing only moments before he left with the Enterprise-E waiting for him; a nice short scene with Picard and co finally signing off the way they never got to in Nemesis.

Picard should have appeared during Old Spock's mind meld with Kirk, just waving in the background as if to say "hey, I was cool too, don't forget about me!"

Considering his central role in the Countdown comics it actually would have made some sense to show Picard during the Mind Meld where Spock was explaining Nero's motivations.

Man, this thread is pretty shocking. I never knew TNG et al. was so disliked lol

I think that has a lot more to do with the TNG movies. The show is still beloved (well, except for Season One), but the films squandered that good will, and contributed greatly to the perception of Trek as tired and creatively spent. I feel kind of sorry for that, there were many great arcs that could have been told with the TNG crew, but that ship, as they say, has sailed.

It's not disliked, really. But we recognize that it's finished. There's no reason keep a franchise going if there's something new and shiny to replace it.

TNG is done. DS9 is done. VOY is done. I loved all of them, but they're done. Let's leave them that way.

Hmm but the thing is TOS was done too but now it is back! So I would not be surprised at all if someday we see some of the 24th century Trek characters again.

This is true, I suppose, but the point of this reboot was to take Trek back to its roots. That should be the point of any reboot.

Rebooting the TNG-era would just be silly and missing the point.

If you had told me 10 years ago that they were bringing back the TOS era I would have called you crazy :p

I don't think it would be necessary to do a grand reboot of the TNG era formally to use those characters in future Abramstrek stories. Just introduce them. Destiny is a big part of the Abramstrek, so I could also accept it as destiny that a Next Generation awaits when the time is right.

I'll bet we see some of the actors again. Michael Dorn and Brent Spiner weren't above playing new characters for Enterprise and Undiscovered country. Perhaps a TNG character will also fall back in time, but I hope not. That'd spell the end of the new franchise I think. Besides, that timeline is no longer around since it was erased when the Narada changed the timeline. The new alternate reality is like a CDRW overcoding the previous Trek information. That's why Q was having so much fun with Picard and the Enterprise-D because he knew it was a temporal dead end. As Q threatened in Far Point, they have been denied existence!

any next gen movie will be with a new younger cast. they will have to reintroduce the whole cast again like they did with this movie. i hope they show the jean-luc/jack/beverly triangle during the reintroduction. :)

Let's table this discussion. For forty years. 2034 is the requisite wait.

Whatever TNG had, they wasted in a bunch of incomprehensibly bad movies. Secret Romulan baby Picards. Data in a haystack. Singing opera during a dogfight. Time-stopping Space Amish, and the galaxy-wide conspiracy to steal their planet. Holodeck tommy-guns, and the great Picard freak-out. Troy boinking half the command deck. Crusher perfecting her Barbara Bain blandness.

Enough for now.

TNG had their big chance for a "Grand Send Off." It was screwed up. Twice. You could have had "Undiscovered Country" - instead you had "Nemesis."

Time for nap time. Bury it for a bunch of years, to get the stink off it. In the meanwhile, write fanzines and attend conventins, and see how the other half lived.
