Where does this sucess of the movie leave Picard, Data & the TNG?

This is in no way critical...I'm glad the franchise is back and reinvigorated. I've loved Trek since the mid '70's when it got big in syndication.

I was just wondering...does this close the door on seeing our friends from the NEXT GEN era. ever again..or could recast versions turn up in a sequel film where the new Kirk and Spock travel to the future.

I'd say they are pretty much done. It's not like the actors are getting any younger. And their movies for the most part bombed.
Maybe they could get one or two to cameo in possible Star Trek sequels, though I'm not in favor of something like this !! Or more time traveling for that matter !

Let's stick with the new bunch and their adventures for now. And lets imagine Picard and the rest continuing their adventures happily in the prime universe.

I guess anything is possible and there could be Time travel to the future, but I think it is unlikely we will see the 24th century again or of least not anytime soon.

its possible, we will see TNG again with new actors in a few years after this set of Star Trek movies have run its course and we need a new crew

With the alternate timeline, we'll see some things change, some things stay the same, and some things be slightly off. Especially with new actors playing the roles of old characters. I hope some day we see the Abramiverse version of Picard et al.

I think there is almost zero chance of seeing them with the possible exception of Spock going back to the "prime" universe. Maybe they get some type of cameo.

They are gone for good. Please no recasting of TNG. If people want to see a reboot then lets see a reboot dammit. New stories, new crews, new worlds to explore.

I don't think Spock can go back. As far as the Prime Universe knows he died with Nero in the black hole. It looked to me like Spock has accepted his fate and will spend his last remaining years in the new universe.

I don't see why TNG would be redone since it isn't really too dated. If they really wanted to, they could re-do all of the Star Trek series and find ways of making them different, but it may or may not be an improvement off of the originals. Star Trek could be re-made forever, but this too would get old and feel "recycled".

TOS was by far the most dated of the Star Treks in character portrayals, stories, and special effects. Several of the original actors have passed away from age-related issues, and the appeal of the show is greatly limited to nostalgia. If TOS is to carry on to another generation, it had to be reinvigorated. I don't believe the same can be said of any of the other shows at this time.

In the alternate 24th century Picard has hair and says 'punch it!' instead of 'engage'.
 Ha Ha! I don't know what's worse -- "punch it" or "engage"...

...at least we only had to hear "punch it" once, and it probably is not the normal manner in which Pike gives the command to "go".

An addendum: see Doc Brown's explanation in Back to the Future II - Any time traveling Spock Prime does now will be in this timeline. I still think that explanation is the best one I've ever seen - well, the best fun movie explanation. So Spock goes to the future, and Picard and Company would probably be totally different. The technology alone in this movie demonstrates that the timeline is going to be completely different.

On DVD. And if Paramount ever does wish to bring them back, they'll employ some clever people to do so - just as they have in order to bring TOS-based movies back. :)

Personally, I'd love to see a great TNG-era "send off" movie. The final hurrah, featuring mainly the TNG crew, but incorporating people from the other shows.

Its funny, we got the "baton passing" from Kirk and Co. to TNG in Generations . . . and then got the "baton passing" from Nimoy to new cast in Star Trek . . . but the closest we go to a baton passing for TNG guys is a comic book! A GOOD comic book, don't get me wrong . . .

I'd love to see a direct to DVD TNG movie. Do it like they did the BSG movies: premiere on SyFy ( ) on Sunday night, then release on DVD the following Tuesday.

Unfortunately, we DID already have an AWESOME TNG send off with "All Good Things". And the impact of that was completely stolen by the TNG movies.

But, yeah, direct to DVD movies (like Stargate/BSG have done) would work, i think. And a compelling story is important. And dire consequences. I understand Janeway was killed off in the follow up novel series.

Let's have Riker and Troi and the Titan get destroyed . . . and Picard on a mission to find out who did it, why, and get revenge . . . maybe. High personal stakes, awesome action, and a proper send off to TNG, DS9, and Voyager. It always bugged me that the show ended when they got home, and we never really got to find out what their life was like . . . it was an alternate timeline we saw, right? it's been a long time.

Best to leave the TNG crew in the past, as much as I liked the series. Nemesis was so old and tired, the polar opposite of this new film. No need to go back there.

Although I do enjoy TNG and its related spinoffs, it took this movie (and my revisiting TOS by just sitting and re-watching a lot of the episodes before seeing the movie) to show how bland it was, for the most part.

Yeah, there were adventures (and the pilot for VOY did have some TOS style to it - some, mind you), but it was tempered to a level that was laid back too much.
