Where did the metal plates go?

I don't know about you, but over the last several years I have noticed that metal plates are slowly being replaced by the rubber kind. That's all well and good, I suppose. I have no real opposition to the rubber plates (and it's nice that they have handles), but what is happening to all the old metal plates?

Well, I think there's metal on the inside of those rubber plates, but yeah...I miss the good clang of the meatal plates.

I hope they're being melted down and used for new weight machines or Olympic bars or something.
