Where can I buy an authentic Gold Captain Kirk uniform

Noir

Cadet
Newbie
I've seen several online, but they all look cheesy. I really like the one they wore in JJ Abrhams movie on the bridge. Any help would be great!

Thanks.

^ I'm figuring that that's the closest to the real thing that anyone's ever likely to get.

^ But expect to pay a pretty penny for it though. Those babies are going to be very expensive. They also won't be available (the last time I heard) until after the first of the year.

I wore the blue science tunic last year for Halloween and I made mine out of two of the Rubies costumes that I chopped up and used for fabric. It worked alright for the money. I also made the pants too. But finding authentic boots is going to be another matter entirely. They used off the shelf DKNY designer boots that have been discontinued. I bought a pair of motorcycle boots and modified them to pass. You can also buy the delta pins at QMX. They were not being sold yet last fall so I made my own out of styrene. I also did the landing party belt with the communicator and phaser toys (with some modifications and a new paint job) to complete the costume. I actually found out what type of gun belt they used in the movie and bought one. Other than the tunic fabric not being quite right and the boots not being authentic, I was pretty please with how it turned out.

If you are looking for something immediate (for Halloween or something) I would get someone to make you a top and pants like I did. It would be cheaper. You can purchase a TOS tunic pattern and modify the neckline. The two patterns are almost the same, with the exception of the neck. The pants can be off the rack but will require some minor modifications to the knees. For more on the details... try here.

Yes they do look cheesy. I just spent an hour googling "Star Trek Costumes" for a TNG movie/ DS9 uniform and believe it or not, It seems that is ALL that is out there. :scream::mad:

I was trying to explain to someone (non-Trekkie) the philosophical/epistemological importance of whether Kirk "REALLY" wore green or yellow. They weren't buying it. Which is the "reality" of the unreal universe? Makes me think of Six Characters in Search of an Author.

But if Trek is "real" there were no actors to wear green. We see the reality. Even tho I've seen the real greenish shirt in Detroit, I think I lean toward gold now as the fictional reality in my addled pate. Fascinating.

Maybe science was really mulberry.

Be well.

Just a bit off the tack, does anyone know who owns the original shirt Shatner wore in TOS? I've always wondered???

I've seen a few of the Star Trek uniforms on E-bay, but I was never sure if they're cheap or very similar to the originals (by 'cheap' I mean quality-wise...they're all generally very expensive). Something I've been wondering: if they're velour, is it accurate to presume they're similar or identical to the originals?

Similar, yes, as seasons 1 and 2 were in shrinking velour. The poly of S3 was a longer, non-shrinking tunic. Also photographed a bit truer to the chartreuse (greenish-GOLD IMHO) of the fabric.
