Where are my NaNoWriMo peeps at?

Ugh. With all the other writing I should be doing, this doesn't seem likely for me this year. I might do the NaBloPeMo or whatever the blogging version is. I did that in November '08 ... so, we'll see.

I got into it last year, and I'm planning to do it again.

As for software, I was using PageFour because it was the closest thing to a Windows equivalent of Scrivener, which is a popular program for novelists working on Macs.

Now they've announced Scrivener for Windows. It won't be ready for purchase until early next year, but they're going to have a public beta available in time for NaNoWriMo. So I'm planning to use that.

Every year I think about participating then I chicken out. I'm lazy and that seems like too much for me to want to do. :)

Yeah, I've wanted to do this several years now but the timing just never seems to work. I'll be so busy with schoolwork I can't imagine participating this year. Good luck to everyone else, though!

November is a hard month to do it. I'm always busy with random things, not to mention Thanksgiving. September would be a much better month for me. I never do anything in September.

Thanks for the link. I have dl'd PageFour and I'm playing with it right now. :techman:

Alright, for those who are throwing caution (and sanity) to the wind and participating this year:

What genre are you writing in?

I know it's cliched, being a Trek forum, but I am in fact doing sci-fi myself. I'm just curious if anyone is venturing out of the genre and tackling something like fantasy or modern fiction, etc?

I like my genres to be...fluid. Last year I started writing about a random dude in high school dealing with his girlfriend, and then I got bored and decided to hurl him back in time to the Middle Ages just to mix things up.

If I actually work up the courage to do it, my genre will be straight-up heroic fantasy. My idea's a mash-up of Celtic mythology, Arthurian legend, real world history (mostly the Norman invasion of Ireland), and a little bit of Frank Herbert's Dune.

I've got the plot pretty much figured out, I'm just too much of a wimp to actually put pen to paper (figuratively speaking).

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's as if the person who came up with this wasn't someone with exams.

Thankfully those are over since I finished college, but yeah, trying to do NaNo during the school year was impossible.

I have been working on a concept book idea for fun and enjoyment but the works keep getting lost in N-space so I have given up but the book idea would be...
"abstract non-linear partial differential equations in relative matrix vector fields"

i know what you mean RJdemonicus about the subject being too heave ,, I have had to invent a few.. a list of new symbols to make the book exist at times...

but the current work is the 64 I-ching / twenty five rune cross referencing correspondence in angelical alphabetic form.. the problem is the extra twenty sixth letter in the English language that I was brought up on conflicting with the runic/angelical alphabet... It will work I tell you LOL

Nice links! I'll have to check those out. :)

I'll be giving it a second go this year. My main goal is to beat my word count for last year, which was modest at best.

I'm giving it a shot after a friend forwarded me a link--I'd never heard of NaNoWriMo before! Deciding today between two story options, mostly driven by which one is more conducive to volume and speed.
