Where are my NaNoWriMo peeps at?

We're stalking up on November and I can't be the only aspiring author (or otherwise) here that's about to take on the daunting challenge of writing 50K words in one month.

Who else is participating in National Novel Writing Month?

:D

I won't be able to participate since I'll be in Indiana for the first week of November and not be at the computer much (if at all.) I always like to see others doing it, though.

What software do you normally do your writing in? I've been using Q10 lately. It's pretty simple and has features that are perfect for NaNoWriMo (such as word counting/targeting.)

Hmm I might actually do it this year, just gotta decide which idea to run with.

By the way star it's good to see you around, don't those Commie lounge days seem so far away.

I'm using Open Office, myself. I have microsoft office, I just haven't installed it on my laptop yet.

Sweet. If you create a profile, you'll have to buddy me. :) I'm Misplaced over there.

Good to see you too, my friend. And yeah, they were a long time ago -- like years even. I'm only a couple of posts away from Vice... so I'll be seeing you in the lounges again very soon! :D

I'm not participating --- I'm in the middle of an active novel project, and would prefer to write 30K of good quality content rather than 50K or more of mediocre stuff.

However, I think NaNoWriMo can be a great exercise for people who aren't in the middle of a project, or who need a jump start, or who just want to write for the hell of it :)

Wait you mean I have to create a profile  Effort! 50k words I can handle but a profile I don't know...

I know years, it's crazy. I was but a boy. Taken your time to get to Vice lol, will be good to see you there :techman:

Is there something similar for the Mac? It looks good, but I need something that I can use on my MacBook.

Oh yeah, I'm in. Writing a steampunk story.

If you just want a fullscreen writing environment, try WriteRoom. Unfortunately, I can't find something similar for Mac that has the word counting features of Q10.

I joined NaNoWriMo a couple of years ago, and only managed about thirty pages. But I made the mistake of going with a complex idea. If I can think of something breezy, I might try it again this year.

I might of found something that has both word counts and writing goals. It's by someone who's been participating and it's free for the month of November:

I'm doing basically a space opera (minus the romantic stuff). Not really the style that I'm hoping to get published in, but it was a story that I came up with when I was much younger and I figured since it's rather fluffy and simple, I could write it in a month.

I signed up to light a fire under my derriere to finish one piece of original work. :p I have other novel ideas mapped out but they are much, much more complex.

Glad to hear that there will be a few of us spending November thinking, "Why the hell did I think I could do this???"

Can I just string together the last 50k words I've written on this board and pass it off as Joycean work of genius?

Every year I think about participating then I chicken out. I'm lazy and that seems like too much for me to want to do. :)

No, you can't jump the gun. But you can string together everything you write in November....

I'll be sure to post frequently....

In fact, I should also throw in whatever I write on my blog too. A mise-en-abyme element would add to the epictitude of the opus.

Gah! I've been waiting for November for the last 4 months! I have participated and failed miserably for the last 5 years, but for some reason this year I am determined!
