WHERE’S WALDO movie being made

Dream

Really MGM? You go through all that financial turmoil, and your next move after getting all your other projects back on track is to go ahead and make a WHERE’S WALDO movie?

Yes, this is happening, as MGM President Jonathan Glickman explains:

“We are thrilled to be bringing the search for Waldo to the big screen. Along with our partners at Classic Media, we look forward to making a worldwide adventure that will appeal to Where’s Waldo? fans of all ages.”

Well, there you have it, a family friendly WHERE’S WALDO film is coming. What exactly that entails, I have no idea.

What a terrible idea for a movie! Maybe MGM loves to throw money away? :rommie:

It's been a long time since I picked up a "Where's Waldo?" book, but do any of them have anything more than an extremely loose narrative? What exactly is there to make into a film here?

Plot: Waldo goes missing, and someone has to find him.
Complication: Many people are wearing the same outfit that Waldo is wearing.

See? It practically writes itself!

I think anything can be made into a movie. It all depends on the approach. If memory serves, there was a "Waldo" cartoon 15 years ago or so. If they were able to create stories around the characters then, why not now?

 I guess it would.

But in all seriousness, this kind of seems like a waste of money.

The hard part will be figuring out which theater the movie is playing in! :)

It will be a challenge to construct a narrative around a hero whose distinguishing characteristic is that he disappears into a busy background. It's like making a movie about an extra in a crowd scene!

"No close-ups! That will ruin the artistic integrity of the concept!"

If you really want to do this right, you need to insert Waldo into the backgrounds of other movies and challenge viewers to spot him . . . . .

Haha Greg, that could actually be a great campaign for the movie. The trailer I posted is a great way to go about it, I think. It has to be a spoof of something, or maybe even a spoof of many movies. Like the books are a pastiche of many different genres, I think the movie could be a mix of different spoofs. I think a movie like this would work better if it doesn't take itself so seriously, but rather pokes fun at itself.
