When you were a child

I wanted to do something Space Related. Either Astronaut or Astronomer or something like that. Much if it had to do with Watching Star Trek growing up, but it just looked so cool.

When I was a small child I wanted to be a bus driver...seriously. I was fascinated by buses when I was a kid. I collected bus schedules, used to pretend on my tricycle that I was the driver of the bus of my favorite bus route in the house. In fact I used to have boxes full of bus schedules. I loved buses. Then when I was a little older, around twelve or thirteen I wanted to be a Doctor. My grades in school would soon thwart that :)

I always wanted to be an astronomer, and I am one of the lucky few that ended up doing exactly what the wanted to do (well, for sufficiently large values of "exactly": being an astronomer sometimes is nowhere as funny as it should be, especially in the field of job security and monetary compensation).

For second choices, I had being a rally driver, a cook, or a writer.

To be queen, and in the traditional sense of being the head of government.

I fancied making all the big decisions, and nurturing the growth of my country towards my vision of how the future should be.
I bet you played lots of Sim City and Civilization ;)

Two games I've never owned. :) Someone installed Sim City on the network when I was at school, and I did play it once or twice, but I found the game rather dry.

Many things:lol::
- Superhero
- Police officer
- Artist
- Writer
- Archeologist

The only thing I remember telling people was that I wanted to be a teacher. That was mainly a result of loving my teachers though, not out of any desire to teach.

Other than that, I feel like Beth from Little Women. I never saw myself as anything much. Never made any great plans. I like being home. But I don't like being left behind. Only thing is, I'm not dying, darnit, so I don't get to go on ahead.

Just thought of something else I've wanted to be since I was about 7. Canadian!

Am working on making that official :)

Please tell more. I'm Canadian, for what it's worth.

My sister says I've wanted to be Canadian ever since I read the population density statistics in the big atlas we had at home. I've certainly wanted to live here for as long as I can remember - I like the emptiness and the snow :).

Four years ago, I emigrated from the UK to Canada. I have the forms for citizenship, just haven't filled them in yet, that's the final step to being officially Canadian :techman:

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut.

Now I'm 30, and I'd still like to be an astronaut.

There's a lot of Space Faring dreamers here. Just a question for everyone. Did Star Trek influence you in anyway (We are on a Trek message board after all) or was it something else. Perhaps if you're older it was the Moon landing in 69, but just what was your influence, if you had any.

^ No. I discovered Star Trek when I was 11. Very late in my childhood. Space got me interested in Star Trek instead of the other way around.

I wanted to be an astronaut long before that. Probably because of the cartoons I saw and it sparked my imagination. Transformers and Thundercats both involved space. They had some Inspector Gadget episodes where they went into space. And of course who can forget Marvin the Martian?

One of my favorite cartoon episodes ever when I was a kid was when Bugs Bunny ends up on the moon, it explodes, and then it looks like a Crescent Moon. Then Bugs Bunny gets a call, "Earth to Bugs Bunny! Earth to Bugs Bunny!" and he screams "Get me out of here!!!"

When I was very young, I dreamed of being a Paleontologist, Archaeologist, Astronomer, Astronaut, Explorer, Detective and... ultimately it dawned on me that these dreams were stories and I really wanted to be a Writer (and Artist), so I could take these dreams out of my head and give them to others.

Ah I see. I'm from Winnipeg (there's your emptiness and snow!) but I lived in Margate, Kent from ages 4 to 9. Born in Ottawa, but left at age 4.
