When will we hit the technological plateau

Somedays I think we're approaching it, others not so much; it honestly depends on what the people will consider good enough for ease-of-use. A phablet is paradoxical, isn't it? Phones getting more smaller and portable for decades, and then they get bigger, and bigger, and bigger - but why?

But it (all overall re:plateau) depends on material sciences, battery tech, and the like. If we're approaching the limits of batteries and materials, then of course, we're closer to plateauing, the next step is dispersing the tech everywhere. If we're close to a breakthrough (carbon materials? diamondiod? Fusion batteries?) then it'll keep on going.

Maybe the phone companies realized that Joe Pesci had their number* in "Lethal Weapon", so they decided to go in a new direction.

*No pun intended, but I'll take it.

Earlier ones I mentioned (cars, construction, weapons, batteries) have plateaued.

There's room for cars to be innovated on. The problem is that some industry sectors, ie oil and gas, are staunchly protective of their sector, making the alternatives seemingly more costly. The electric car for instance, might be the 3rd or 4th time they've been on the market, starting way back in the 1900's.

Nowhere near plateauing in quantum computing and AI.

Things like cars are only plateaued because of political interventions. Legislation sponsored by companies who profit off the status quo, safety regulations designed to the specs of the old technology, etc.

Even if our civilization evolves into something like meca from the film AI, they'll still be learning and growing.
