When will we have more news on the 2017 series?

i know we are a year away from release but pilot season is now, isn't this when USTV does castings?

Also Kurtzman will need to hire writers, cast, hire directors and crew and get the pilot/first few episodes shot and post-production done by the end of the year.

Surely we will here more soon? The movie is out this summer and the Vegas convention takes place - might they want to cross-promote there?

The show was ordered to series. There is no Pilot, just the first episode in the series. And pilot season and upfronts are largely irrelevant for an online streaming show debuting on its own schedule.

Presumably Kurtzman is interviewing for writers now. Whether that makes news or not is a question. I doubt we will hear any casting news until the writing staff is assembled and they know what they are casting for.

My guess is we'll start hearing something about casting calls around May/June or so at the earliest, with the assumption they'll cast early summer in order to start filming late summer/early fall.

We could be at least six or seven months away before we see the first publicity shots of the cast in full costume and makeup (or the first behind-the-scenes segments from CBS' Entertainment Tonight).

They're probably still in the middle of writing and pre-production, which means casting is likely still a few months away.

I, too, am eager to be kept in the loop by CBS about this project. It is a very exciting time to be a STAR TREK fan!

San Diego CC is on the weekend the movie comes out but maybe if filming is underway they may be light publicity if anything?

The Vegas Con is in August shortly after the movie so I'd expect there to be a panel and reveals here? Like a massive pre launch

I kind of ignored Enterprise and it wasn't until after it ended I was interested in the Season 4 storylines. I pushed my Trek fandom back for a few years, Hidden Frontier and New Voyages pulled me back in.

I liked the 2009 movie and don't mind the new universe.

I WANT to love this show!!

I agree that September 8th will be a big info day for the new show. They ought to be filming the pilot by then, too.

I think it's safe to say 99% of fans want that as well.

But after the lackluster ENT and the abysmal NuTrek I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, so that I don't get hurt too badly if it is terrible.
I won't have very high hopes throughout the first two seasons, if we even get them.

But knowing Trekkies (or even all TV fans nowadays), this series is going to be judged and reviewed by everyone on the internet once that first episode drops, and if it's a meh or not very good episode, lots of casual fans will probably forget about the show and move on, one episode in.

I would LOVE if we got a consistently good show from the beginning, but I'm not expecting it.

My understanding is there won't be a "pilot," the first thing they shoot will be a episode, probably the first to be shown.

By June or July I except we'll start seeing preproduction art, costumes, make up of aliens, set designs, the ship.

That assumes they want to share that. A lot of shows and movies want to keep things a secret. Have a big surprise reveal of Romulans at the end of the first episode? Well then you better not release preproduction anything related to Romulans. Think about how little JJ revealed before Trek 2009. We don't know the approach Kurtzman will take, but it's possible there will be nothing besides casting news until the first trailer/commercial debuts.

What I´d like to know: How far along would they be by now? Would they have a series concept set in stone and a title? Series bible written? (is that even still "a thing" nowadays?) First concept art?

I think they would have had an idea of the series concept quite a while before it was announced.

It's likely they're hiring writers now.

Depends. What is CBS's strategy at this point? They will go for a serialized format in All Access releasing a new episode weekly or they will go the Netflix way and release the whole season on the same day? If they go for the whole season on January than we should have news sooner than later. If they go for the weekly format than September-October for a first trailer sounds about right and some news on cast and crew and details somewhere in August
