When will someone officially name the new Enterprise?

At the risk of opening a can of worms, giving it some sort of nickname kind of implies that it isn't just the Enterprise, but some sort of alternate version--when, in fact, this is simply the Enterprise for the time being.

What? It is an alternate reality version of the original Enterprise. We all know this. This fact is not in dispute, nor has it ever been. Unfortunately, it will be what passes for the Enterprise for the forseeable future. And that sucks. But it's not the Enterprise.

I'm surprised nobody has come up with "The Alterprise" as a name :)

Hmmm. That's actually not bad.:)

Hahahahahaha:). Yep, here I am again:D. I just call it the Fuglyprise. It's the only starship named "Enterprise" that I can truely call Ugly. All the others, even the "B" and "C" were beautifullly designed, well proportioned, fully functional looking ships. The Fuglyprise, on the other hand, is none of those things.
Nearly all of that is opinion, and opinion which not everyone shares with you. The bulk of it also has a rather tenuous relation to the thread's topic.

But that's for another discussion.
Bingo. If only you'd come to this realization sooner, you might have been able to avoid giving the impression that you were posting here primarily to wind folks up (if not indeed solely for that purpose.) As it is, though...

I call it the "Fuglyprise". That's my nickname for the thing. The topic of the thread was "When will someone officially name the new Enterprise?" Other posters started giving their nicknames for the ship. So I posted mine. My post has everything to do with this thread. When I started getting into the poor design of the ship as compared to the original, I stated it was for another discussion, which it was. I know you don't share my opinion of how horrid the Fuglyprise is, and there are many others here who don't as well. However, if I choose to express my hatred of that repulsive excuse for a ship, I shall do so. Have a nice day.;)

You're making my point. That giving it some sort of dismissive nickname is not a neutral choice. It's a value judgment that implies that this is not the "real" Enterprise and the new movies are somehow illegitmate.

In every way that matters, this is the Enterprise now. And if you don't have axe to grind, why call it anything else?

This is true. Previous variants of the Enterprise had their own letter designations and each was of a different class - the TMP Enterprise is supposed to be the same ship as the TOS jobbie, but still gets designated the "refit." So the "official names" of previous variants were acknowledgments that in-universe they're different ships - the Ambassador class "C," Galaxy class "D" etc.

Not true for this one - it's the Constitution-class NCC-1701, same as Kirk's ship has always been.

And for convenient conversational distinctions "JJPrise" works fine.

Uhm, err, no. It's an alternate universe NCC-1701, the writers said that Nero's time travel changed the design. So in-universe, it's a different ship, too.

Man you guys will fight over just about anything ... it's the Enterprise, the same way Hunter's was, the same way Shatner's was, the same way Alan Ruck's was, Tricia O'Neill's was, Bakula's was, and Stewart's was.

Like it or love it.

This ship is the U.S.S. Enterprise. Those other ships from the past with the same names? Their stories are done and over with. (With the exception of the novel writers and fan productions.)

Like doubleohfive wrote, like it or love it. Or get over it. Hating it makes no difference, because it's not going away. Quite the opposite, in fact.

I'm going to break convention here and call it "the Enterprise", because I'm daring and dangerous that way. It's the Constitution Class Enterprise, James T. Kirk's ship.

I’m going to break convention here and call it Lucy. It means “she whose warp nacelles defy relativity.” The next film will feature a special performance of “Lucy in Space with Dilithium” by Shatner.

I didn't read all the posts. Maybe it's already been suggested, but how about NYFE (not your father's Enterprise)?

Screaming Pile Of Shiterprise.
:lol:Oh that is soooo perfect! I love it!!!
Not bad, although I'm partial to Fuglyprise.

Yeah. me too. :)

For the Trek fans who feel like they're on the losing end of the deal: Consolationprise.

That was pretty good. I never woulda thought of that one. Works for me.

Yeah, hilarious...if you're about ten years old.

Teehee...

Need I say more?

Oh please. Get over yourself. That was funny and you danged well know it. ;)
