When will someone officially name the new Enterprise?

Why do we need a nickname? At the moment, it's the only Enterprise that's going to be appearing in the movies, so it's "the Enterprise."

If one needs to make a distinction or comparison, just call them the "old" or "new" ships. Easy enough.

Hahahahahaha:). Yep, here I am again:D. I just call it the Fuglyprise. It's the only starship named "Enterprise" that I can truely call Ugly. All the others, even the "B" and "C" were beautifullly designed, well proportioned, fully functional looking ships. The Fuglyprise, on the other hand, is none of those things.
Nearly all of that is opinion, and opinion which not everyone shares with you. The bulk of it also has a rather tenuous relation to the thread's topic.

But that's for another discussion.
Bingo. If only you'd come to this realization sooner, you might have been able to avoid giving the impression that you were posting here primarily to wind folks up (if not indeed solely for that purpose.) As it is, though...

My point is, I'm sick of having to refer to it as 'The Enterprise from the new movie'. I'll start talking to someone about the ship and the first thing they ask is, 'Which one, the new one or the old one?'. 'The one from the new movie. The 2009 Enterprise. The reimagined one, etc, yada yada yada!'

The Reinventerprise?

The Inauthenterprise?

The Dissenterprise?

The Primogentriprise? (Or would that be the TOS Enterprise?)

The Boobyprise?

The new Enterprise was involved in the mission that saved the Earth. It took five years and a complete rebuild before the TOS/TMP Enterprise could say that.

See The Changeling or The Immunity Syndrome or The Alternative Factor.

Except "The Alternative Factor", none of those were an immediate danger to Earth. Would Nomad have even found Earth by himself? How fast was the space amoeba going? They're not quite the same as a giant cloud of death or a space octopus or a Borg cube or a whale probe getting right in Earth's face.

Does it really matter? Your statement was that the Enterprise wasn't involved in any missions to save Earth prior to her refit. So your statement is invalid... as I have shown. Let us also not forget the long term threats both Gary Mitchell and Charlie Evans posed to the galaxy at large. Or that the Enterprise was involved in a mission that saved billions in the Rigel system in The Doomsday Machine.

So not only is your statement invalid, it comes across as downright retarded.

And let us also not forget that the Enterprise kept the Federation (which includes Earth) out of a potential war with the Romulans in Balance of Terror. They also prevented a potential civil war with their actions in Journey to Babel.

But I guess it only counts if there is an uber-fanwank ship in orbit of Earth dropping bombs.

I don’t think the Enterprise should get credit for saving us from Gary Mitchell without noting that the Enterprise created that particular problem in the first place.

At the risk of opening a can of worms, giving it some sort of nickname kind of implies that it isn't just the Enterprise, but some sort of alternate version--when, in fact, this is simply the Enterprise for the time being.

This.

It's just "The Enterprise." Everything else depends on the context of the discussion.

I generally call it the nuEnterprise, but only in comparisons to the TOS Enterprise or anything else from the prime universe.

Otherwise, it's the Enterprise.

I never said the Enterprise didn't save planets. It just didn't save Earth in immediate danger during TOS. Had the Enterprise been destroyed during TOS, it's possible others could have stopped the any threat before it reached Earth. That was not true of TMP, TVH, Best of Both Worlds or STXI, where the Enterprise (or Enterprise crew in the case of TVH) was the last line of defence for the capital of the Federation.

Sorry if that somehow offends you.
