When was SG-1 at its peak?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
hey guys, i've watching SG-1 from the beginning. saw the movie when it came out and followed it onto the TV set. i then moved onto Atlantis and didn't think it was as great overall, but as i kept following it i slowly grew to understand and witness its potential unfold. It got cancelled and i didn’t understand why.

i've really tried moving onto SGU, but it's just too hard to watch. the show is different, maybe too different for me. now that i'm working full time and have a progressing athletic career i want to return home and watch something enjoyable. I take so much pleasure in watching SG-1.

been watching a two episodes from season 6, 7, and 8 and this really feels like when the show was hitting its stride. there was a brilliant enemy in Anubis, new and devastatingly awesome super soldiers, and great action sequences and space battles. seasons 9 and 10 changed things up, but it just didn't feel the same and the show gradually fell off its peak.

i haven't seen the early episodes for some time so i'd appreciate feedback on the one's i should look into.

i really love the scenes with the serpent guards, horus guards and the space battles.

what episodes should i look into? doesn't have to be from a certain era of the show, but any point in time.

thanks

forgot to ask if anyone knew the episode where anubis commands the super soldiers to execute the Jaffa in an open field?

thanks

I'm sure most people would disagree, but I feel that SG-1 hit its peak in season 8. It was their most consistent season IMO. Plus, you can't beat the Reckoning episodes and Threads, the 3 best episodes in all of Stargate.

I am also one of those few people who like seasons 9 and 10. But they didn't surpass the quality of season 8.

I think seasons 2 - 5 were the peak. The original team was together fighting the good fight. Season 6 really showed the team splitting up and doing some different things (which coincides with RDA stepping back a little bit) and that continued from then on.
There were plenty of good episodes throughout the series, but I thought 2 - 5 were the most true to the original premise.

The RDA years really are the best of the Stargate franchise. Even seasons 7 and 8 though his presence is diminished, the show was still a blast. Season 8 is essentially the end of the show. Though seasons 9 and 10 were entertaining, the show already had its day and it was time to move on.

Lost City, Part 1.

Seasons 2-4. Apophis was a great villain and I enjoyed marathoning these episodes. There was just the right mix of drama and humor; standalones and Goa'uld episodes. I think season 7 was another high point for the show.

I just finished watching seasons 1-10 courtesy of Hulu. This was actually my first time watching these as I had only started watching Stargate with SGU.

At any rate, I agree with the seasons 2-5 sentiment above. The show clearly started losing momentum with 6, and getting through 8 was kind of a chore. I liked 9, actually; the show clearly needed the soft reboot with the new characters and plotline to give it some energy again. Unfortunately, the show started flailing again with 10; the stuff with Vala's daughter didn't sustain the potential introduced by the Ori and the Priors in 9.

I think seasons 5 and 6 were the high point. Season 7 was clearly starting to lose steam; season 8 got some of it back, though.

SGU (2X01 Intervention to be exact) was my introduction to the stargate franchise as well. I also reaped the benefit of Hulu airing all seasons of SG-1 to begin my journey into stargate. I have not watched all the seasons as I got sidetracked by Caprica but I find the earlier seasons (1 and 2) to be the best.

I really liked Apophis as the main baddie and he is my favorite Goa'uld. The later seasons seemed a bit boring to me and I didn't really like the replicators as recurring bad guys. I found the series finale to be incredibly boring.

Season 4-6 for story though season 7 upped the levels in a way never seen by the franchise for the amazing Lost City arc. As for ratings well season 7 & 8 hold that honor I believe (on SYFY anyway).

I saw 2-6.

The sixth season gave change in the show and it was nicely handled, unlike all the changes from season 7 onward that were just a huge mess.

You've never seen season 1?...Its not great but still I find the start of stories pretty important

Wow... no I pretty much saw ever season. Talk about a weird typo. I skipped more season 9 and 10 and most of season 8 bothered me and I hated season 7.

What I meant to say is I LIKE seasons 2-6.

The curse of the typo

I plan to re-watch SG-1 next year so I wonder what seasons will remain the peak of SG-1 for me. The problems with season 7-10 are the filler episodes but the stuff core to the shows arc is probably some of the finest in the entire franchise.

I think Season 2 through 5 is a good answer. It got worse when it moved to sci-fi. I think seasons 9 and 10 were the best of the sci-fi run... I don't know, I guess you could probably figure out exactly where the show lost if you go through all the episodes and find the moment where RDA just stopped caring and no longer took the show or the plot remotely seriously. The replicators were pretty awful, and the more they demystified the ancients the less interesting the overall arcs became.

I enjoyed all of the SG1 seasons a great deal. 3-5 were probably the most consistent, but I really enjoyed Ben Browder and Claudia Black in seasons 9 and 10. The 200th episode was brilliant :guffaw:
