Spoilers When in S2 did we start to feel the effects of new showrunner/writers?

The fifth episode ends with getting Culber out of the Mycellial Network. That seems like a good stopping point. "The Sounds of Thunder" focuses on Saru, the Kelpians, and the Ba'ul. So that felt to me less like the change in showrunners it was and more like just a shift in story focus. No sign of Spock yet either.
We finally see Spock in "Light and Shadows" but with the way they mentioned Spock before, I still didn't notice a difference. The same with the next episode, "If Memory Serves". I know the original plan wasn't to show Adult Spock but, up until this point, it seemed like a seamless transition.
When "Project Daedalus" aired and Control was introduced, that's when I started wondering, "What's up here?"
Short Answer: I didn't start to feel the difference until the fourth episode after Alex Kurtzman took over.
Also, "Project Daedalus" seems to be the point when people who'd been warming up to DSC started turning on it again. So that's where I'd say the split really occurred, if you go by what you see on the screen and not what happens behind the scenes.

I think the change was pretty much apparent immediately when Kurtzman took over control in the 6th episode. I say this because the end of that episode established that the Red Angel was a humanoid in a futuristic spacesuit, which began to take all of the mystery out of it that existed earlier in the season. In addition, Pike's little comments about religion (going to church as a child and such) just completely evaporated.
Don't hold your breath CBS knows nothing about Star Trek, Kurtzman knows very little other than surface level info, new runners in same boat, so not promising, IMO.
This show was put on wrong path from the start - tone, feel, uniforms, Klingon look n ships, etc. All broke too far from Cannon, again all my opinion. If you love the show, that's great and what makes freedom special
I get this is just an opinion, but it is also one of the most ridiculous things I have seen anyone bother to hit the "post reply" button after typing.
A showrunner doesn’t have to know anything about Star Trek to make a good product. All it takes is good writing, a clear direction, and characters the audience cares about (something which, IMHO, DSC doesn’t yet have). Just like what happened when Michael Piller took over TNG at the start of the third season. We need more people like him.
Right now it seems like DSC is just flopping from one half-baked idea to another, without any real thought or plan behind it. I’m hoping that will change.
If anything, Kurtzman's problem is he's too much of a fanboy.

Great point, from CBS on down no one has shown enough insight to do so, real shame, again IMO
I don't see any great changes in the show where it comes to 'reflection room'. There were plenty of character bits across the first season, there are as much this season. I don't really see any more this year over last to make a claim that there's been any notable change.

If I limited myself to getting my all my understanding of the series exclusively from tl;dw I'd feel the same way too.
I'm not sure if the showrunner change had anything to do with this shift / development or not, but this is where I started to feel disappointed in the chosen direction.
Harbarts and Berg were fired episode 5 after which the show took a planned 'production hiatus' of several weeks.
"The Sound of Thunder" was episode 6 with Kurtzman overseeing it, and it was the first to feature the suit.
I imagine that some things were always planned (visiting Kaminar and Talos) but there's a very distinct shift in storytelling between the two section.
