I was about 10 years old and loved everything that had to do with space travel and science. My mother told me there was going to be this show on the tv with space travel in it. It was a rerun of TOS, in 1987, and I was hooked. I could not miss one single episode.

In the early to mid seventies from watching reruns of TOS, seeing TAS, and ultimately seeing TMP in the theater. Even back then, being 8 or 9, I really got into trek and loved the stories.

I was in my teens when TOS was broadcast, but I never watched it. Science fiction? Yuck! LOL

I was first exposed to TNG at a neighbor's house in 1992, and I fell in love...

I'm 30. I became a fan around the beginning of 1991, during the middle of TNG and towards the end of the TOS movies. I was super-excited to see Star Trek VI.

I remember loving Star Trek TOS reruns as a child in the early 80s with my mum and enjoying it. But then it wasn't shown again. I watched Encounter at Farpoint and switched off halfway though as I found it boring. I watched the next week though and was really enthralled. Since that episode I never missed it. I had a really crap childhood and teenage years weren't any better. TNG particularity helped me through the hard times. I could escape into Roddenberry's world and it was amazing. I had lots of paraphernalia and every magazine. I even attended a convention at 14 on my own. TNG was the ultimate TV program for me for years until 5 years ago when I realised I preferred DS9 as my faviurite. I have just discovered my love for the TOS again.

I don't know when I "became a fan" of Star Trek, I just remember watching it all the time because that was what we did in our house every week. Actually, we watched Star Trek more consistently then we went to church, if that tells you something. I was born in 85, so that puts it around TNG era, and I have an extremely vague memory of my mother being really excited while watching Encounter at Farpoint for the first time.

I don't remember actually liking it, or being aware that it was something to be liked or disliked until I got to kindergarten and discovered that other kids didn't like it.

So in all honesty, I should say I don't know when I became a fan, but I became aware that I was a fan around the time that TUC came out since that was the first time I went to see a Trek movie in theaters.

I became a fan quite recently, But by watching an episode of TNG at a friends house, then I became hooked.

I liked the Original Series but I was too young to really appreciate it. I watched it and I thought it was cool, if a bit dated (I watched it in the early 80s on Italian tv). But it was only with TNG that I truly embraced my inner nerd and became a self-aware fan.

I was born into Star Trek fandom. I was born in 1977, and my mom was a fan. I was always really into the movies, but it wasn't until about 1989 that I really started getting into TOS, TNG and reading the novels.

I remember it was the airing of "Unification, Part I." I was flipping channels and saw the crew trying to solve a mystery--and just as it was about to explain stuff, it cut to commercial. I was hooked then...I had to know what happened!

From there I devoured TNG, and then when DS9 came on, I was a happy camper!

I drifted away, though, with VOY and to some extent ENT. But furthermore...over time, my attitudes changed. I am not at all the idealistic person I was before, so now I relate to DS9 much, much better than any of the other series.

Like many, I grew up in the 70s, watching reruns. I always liked it. But what cemented it for me was TWOK. After that, there was no hope. I was one for good.

Sometime in the mid 70s watching TOS repeats. I saw the films in order, but I think the first one I saw at the cinema was The Voyage Home.

I think I was born a fan. My Dad was a huge Trekkie and I grew up hearing about it before I even had watched an episode. I really statred liking it on my own after watching TNG I guess.

I don't know why I read these topics, they always make me feel old.

I was interested in space and science fictiony stuff -- who wouldn't be, at a time when you could turn on the TV and see real people walking on the moon -- and my mother figured I'd like Star Trek. It was the early '70s. I loved the original and animated series, I went to all the movies as they were released, and I was excited when TNG started, though in retrospect it got off to a really shaky start. Then came DS9, the best of the Star Trek series, but Voyager and Enterprise didn't do a lot for me. Still haven't seen every episode of those two, and that's something that would have shocked me once. Oh, and it's always been about the books as much as about the TV series for me, since the days of Mission to Horatius and James Blish's adaptations.

yes it's awesome being a Star Trek fan even though I am a girl can girls love Star Trek

Of course. My wife was a fan long before we met (always good to fall for someone you have some shared interests with), and she was hardly the first female fan I ever met. Women were pretty much responsible for starting Star Trek conventions and fan fiction, among other things.

I was born in the early '80's, so I was a TOS/TAS/Movies fan until TNG came out. It was practically genetic, my parents are both huge Trek fans!

As a kid in the mid-to-late 70's. My older brother was into the shows so naturally I watched along with him. Re-runs of TOS were on every day so I got to see each episode several times. It just became one of those childhood pleasures that hook you for the rest of your life. watched the movies when they came to the theater and the cartoons were on Saturday morning for awhile. I remember boycotting TNG for the first year. Even though Roddenberry was behind it I still thought they were kind of desecrating the name of Star Trek by trying to recycle it. In hindsight skipping the first year was probably a good thing. Eventually I gave in of course and became a huge TNG fan. Loved DS9, but started to wear out on Voyager. By Enterprise I felt the idea needed a break and only watched it sporadically. Not a huge fan of STXI, but being a life long fan of Trek I am committed to at least trying anything new that comes out.

Well, I first saw Star Trek when was a kid, I'm guessing maybe 5 or 6 years old, not for sure really. At that time TOS reruns was on tv (80's),because I didnt see it orginaly in the late 60's I wasnt even born yet. But I remmber in the 80's lot of the tv stataions did show reruns of old shows incluging TOS. So that was when I first seen Star Trek. I really didnt get into Star Trek until I got older,my mom's boyfriend's watched it all the time, so I grew into like Star Trek. I at first really liked TOS, and than later like TNG. I grew up watching both TOS and TNG. And I kind of switched back and forth of likeing the other beter than the other. I know when the other shows came on tv, I watched them and grew into liking them except for DS9, never liked DS9 then and still dont like it now. Anyways even after all the shows and movies, TOS and TNG I seemed to always liked beter than the others. I know a lot later finally when I got into my early 20's I then liked TNG better than TOS, but still liked both regardless of which one was my favorite. I know one of the movies I liked the best was Genarations because it had both Kirk and Picard. And I liked Kirk from TOS, he and Spock were the best charcters I liked. Anyways, after the new movie came out this year, I fell in love with it, and it got me to wanting to watch TOS again. So after watching TOS for the first time in years, I fell in love with that show all over again. I still like TNG, but TOS now is my most favorite Star Trek show of the two now. Both TOS and TNG are my most favorite shows and movies of all of the shows. I will list here my favorite Star Trek movies of the past and my favorites as of now:
