When did Star Trek jump the shark?

It hardly failed; Happy Days finished that season at #2 in the ratings only behind Laverne & Shirley.

The other thing that happened with HD was the exodus of main characters in those last few seasons. And then... the last episode where Dad Cunningham pays tribute to his "two children", finally erasing poor ol' Chuck from canonical memory.

Happy Days is similar to TOS in that it's first eps have such a different feeling to them than the layers. Weren't they even without laugh track or audience?

I don't think a Trek series or the franchise ever got so far afield permanently from where it began as Happy Days did. No jump IMHO.

Before the Jump the shark episode of Happy Days, the Fonz jumped over some cars.

It seems like things got sillier and sillier, like it was building up to that imfamous episode.

The Fonz started off as being a really cool guy, too cool to bother with stuff the other characters did.

Then over time he loosened up and started doing sillier and sillier things until...
..He finally jumped over a shark-on water skies, in trunks and a leather jacket.

If that's the case, then Paris turning into an arrogant reptile thing after going beyond warp ten, qualifies as a jump the shark episode.

Maybe jump the shark episodes aren't as bad as they seem...

Maybe we could add "turned into salamanders" to "jumped the shark" and "nuked the fridge."
