When did Star Trek jump the shark?

This is a tough question to answer because there have been so many series and I think you'd have to ask at what point did EACH series jump.

TOS: It never jumped. The stinky episodes are mixed right in with the good ones.
TNG: It would have to be "Unification." I saw the Roddenberry Epitaph on the screen, and not knowing about his death, just turned the TV off. There was no point in going on. Years later I watch parts of Season 7 and I just couldn't get through it, it was awful.
DS9: Didn't watch it, didn't care for it.
VOY: Didn't watch it, didn't care for it.
ENT: Piolet episode. Nothing worked. No chemistry, no feeling, no plot. I suffered through three seasons of it because I had begun posting to this BBS and wanted to join in on the conversation. But that one episode where they showed that alien in a Nazi uniform...well, that was it for me.

MOVIES: "Generations" was it for me. You don't kill Kirk. Sorry, you just don't.

For me ENT jumped with the pilot. As soon as I heard that the Klingon's name was Klang I could her a metal trash can lid being slammed down and echoing endlessly (they actually called the fucking Klingon Klang? :wtf:). I knew ENT was merely affirming what VOY had already showed, that Trek had become trash.

What's wrong with the name Klang?

Yikes! The OP seems a bit strong about his/her views of Star Trek. I'm surprised they didn't say Trek jumped the shark when Uhura started wearing a red minidress.
Um because when Uhura was wearing miniskirts in the 60s, it was the hip young things rebelling against their post WWII /1950's upbringing wearing them in real life - Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, Mary Quant and all that.

Just a guess here, probably miles off base but... That was a joke since Uhura wore command gold in two early episodes. It's just that air date and production order had nothing in common back during TOS.

I hate it when they make all the bad ass alien look weak like on Voy and Enterprise (where the Klingons seem like they are weeping all the time). The purpose of creating a show about alien cultures (that's basically it) is to show people: Look! Open your eyes your anus...other cultures are just as good as ours! You can't just judge people base on stereotype and pigeion hole them into a nice neat catogory. They are just as diverse group of people as us. But, aliens are not people, so some would naturally be stronger, both mentally and physically, like the Klingons, Vulcans and Romulans. that's the fun and beauty of it. It's a shame they did not exploit and take that venue! DS9 was the best in exploiting this IMO.

And, people love to talk, read and watch about bad things that people do! It's called gossiping! :guffaw: Besides i think people can relate to the simple stuff like that, like, sexual desire and fantasies, bad marriage, getting mad at your family or friends for rediculous reasons and maybe taking advantage of other people's misfortune and make good for yourselves.... You know that kind of thing which draws in the crowd and true to human nature. If anybody say they've never done anything wrong, that kindda crap, they are lying! [laugh] Do think Picard can get all that he really need from Star Fleet rather than real women?! [laugh] he must uses a lot of holodeck...everday! [laugh] Capt. privilege...?

It's a silly and stupid sounding name. It certainly doesn't sound alien or imposing particularly for a Klingon. It actually sounds like a joke as if the writer were taking a deliberate shot at the show and effectively saying "This is all ridiculous bullshit. Give the guy a stupid name and I bet few will actually notice because they take it too seriously."

You know, Warped nine, this is the one thing I disagree with you about. Read a Jack Chalker book called the Well of the Souls and you'll hear of the Klang. They stole it from him to try to usurp his universes as it were and get some recognition and it does sound like a Klingon name anyway. For me, the name might have been the best thing about the pilot. The worst was obviosly seeing the Klingons ridges hadn't gone away, etc. and the same drab uniform, etc.. the ship, no music, the same production values. In Star Wars they took a swipe at Dune saying, He just came back from a dispute on Antioch with disgruntled spice miners and Aliens, with Not another bug hunt, trying to rip off the Starship Troopers concept. They'll tell you that is a homage but give me a break. Them becoming kingdoms within Empires, as it were.

It's not a name, it's a sound effect!

Plus I never noticed what colour Uhura was wearing once we had the VHS tapes then the DVDs.

Maybe he was from Malaysia? Its also a name used in Sweden.

Now what about "Kang" what sort of alien would have a name like that? And dont get me started on Kras! ;)

Klingons probably think "John" is a silly name as there's probably a Klingon word that sounds like it.
