When and how did you become a Star Trek fan?

As far back as I could remember. TOS can get the credit because it paved the way for TNG. For me it really was TNG. As I got older it turned to DS9 then Voyager. I’ll be a Niner for life.

Ha, never mistook Star Trek for Star Wars, they were so different even back in the day...light saber versus phaser gun, etc. :) IMO Trek was always superior and ALWAYS will be! :)

When I was a kid, my sister used to love to watch it. I distinctly remember then bringing home the VHS rental of STIV and watching it (i must have been 4 or 5?). I loved the whales.

Since then I have become a huge fan in of itself. My favorite starship class is a toss up between the Constitution Refit or the Excelsior Refit. I have both of the diamond select versions of these starships in my office.

And a Tokyo Pop Worf.

I kind of just grew into it after being exposed to it at an early age thanks to both my parents and grandparents from both sides of the family (mainly TOS and TNG). I eventually discovered DS9, VOY and ENT in my early teens and fell in love with those as well. I used to always check out VHS copies of TOS at my local library and replay my favorite scenes so much that I wore the tapes out on those parts. I still have recorded episodes of Star Trek from sci-fi (2002-2004) on VHS that I pop in on occasion for that extra nostalgia value.

In the early ‘70s, there was almost no sci-fi programming at all except Trek reruns on cable (when cable became available)

I became a fan of TOS back in the 1970s, when it aired in syndication (either Channel 44 or Channel 2). In fact, my first "View Master" featured the episode "The Omega Glory". Man, I miss that thing...

I fell in love with ST: TOS in '90 when I was fourteen. I was lone and looked for a support in books and movies. TOS inspired me more than any other story, I was even writing letters to my favorite character, mr Spock. Easily had overcame teen crisis thanks to him.

I am just coming back to Star Trek fandom. As an old fart, I go back to TOS. After that, I lost touch with Star Trek in all its forms, though my wife has been a constant, long-time Trekkie. I've begun watching episodes of The Next Generation to start me back on course. Glad to be here and hope to learn more from all of y'all.

In the 80s, watching reruns of TOS with my mom. It took me awhile to get into it, but once I did I was hooked. :)

Through countless reruns, from UHF stations, and an ancient communications receptor. I seem to recall, that they were called antennas. Once upon a time, almost everybody had one.

Watching TNG with my dad when it first aired in Australia, and renting TOS from the local video shop so often I wore out the tapes.

To be honest, I like them both equally, and in my opinion they're too different to make a direct comparison or to say that one is "better" than the other. They're each telling very different kinds of story.

October, 1973. I was six years old. The sitter was a big fan and after putting my brother to bed, she sat with me on the couch to watch The Devil in the Dark on WLVI CH. 56 out of Boston. Been watching ever since.

I was a kid while watching TOS. I was so interested in science that I end up as engineer now retired of course. I love TOS, TNG, VOY, ENT(it should deserve more respect esp comparing to medicore Discovery). I think Star trek canon was the time people focusing on technology, exploration... Now everything got cheap, people esp CBS, Paramont wants easy money without sweat and push that Star faketrek on us... Sci-fi is NOT chick flick, we as viewers do think about it logically.... no wonder Star faketrek merchandise bad... I own NONE. Unless faketrek pick up the pen and do some real work, I would rather spend my money on Orville or others.... DON"T RAPE OUR HISTORY!!!!

It's been about thirty years for me. My sister and I used to watch TOS reruns on Manchete, a Brazilian network. The dub was awful, but we loved it anyway.
