What's Your Name?

Hi, I'm Don and I'm an alcoholic.

I wasn't supposed to say that was I??? :(

No you're good. As long as you don't give your last name...and hello Don...welcome to the meeting. Coffee is over to the left and chain smoking is done right out back. Afterwards we usually go to Finney's down the street and have a beer.

I strongly suspect my last name sounds like something very funny or very profane in some Chinese languages, because I have troubles getting a reservation in some Chinese restaurants, and I often get the "are you fucking kidding me?" silence when I tell them.

On the other hand, I know my last name sounds like something very funny and very profane in Spanish. Yeah, I'm lucky like that. :shifty:

Well, now I'm curious. Don't worry, over here we have people whose last name is something obscene or awkward even in German. Names with 'fick' (fuck) in it, from just 'Fick' to the loveable Bavarian variant 'Fickinger'.
I once had a Mrs. Fett (Fat) on the phone. I wasn't quite sure that I had understood her name correctly but dared not to ask her, afraid I might be offending her. (Yes, I'm a terrible person.)

Heidi Joy. That is it ~ my parents were too poor to afford a middle name :(
It is remarkable how many people ask me to spell my surname. I'm thinking of changing the spelling to something really exotic ~ suggestions?
It's not an easily abbreviated name although my friend, another Heidi, calls me Hides, which is acceptable.
I do not, however, under any circumstances respond to 'Heidi Hi' ~ Ever :klingon:

That's cool. My Mum is a Heidi, too (well, actually a Heidemarie). So I like the name a lot. :)

My name is Rory.
It cracks me up to hear Americans calling little girls Rory as over here that would be like calling your daughter Donald or John.

Yoheghey.

I thought you were yodelling at me there for a mo ~ which would be appropriate for a Heidi I s'pose

In Italian it would be spelled Gioi.

Also, the name of a lovely little town in the province of Salerno, in the Italian south, a place touched by a number of Mediterranean legends, from the Odyssey and the Aeneid to the Argonauts' voyage...

Now that is romantic :)

Heidemarie is lovely and much nicer than plain Heidi. I get 'Heidi-Joy and your surname is?' Or the best ~ letters addressed to Ms Joy Heide:rolleyes:

^Or joined the army and became Private Joy, General Joy or Major Joy
You could also change your name by deed poll and hook up a major sponsor - for example, go down the Millennium Dome route and become O2 Joy. ;)

But all kidding aside, I like the name Joy as well. Especially at the end of the working week - it gives me that Freude feeling. :D

That took me a few seconds but  ~ your posts are just poetry in motion Zee :)

Danke schön! Ich werde hier bis zum Dienstag! :bolian: [Fail - alle]

I'm already starting to. Go away.

;)

I see what you're doing...reverse psychology to get me to stay. :techman:

While we're on the subject and divulging names...I'd love to see more personal info and pictures on everybody's profile. I understand not wanting to get to personal...but basic things like location should be divulged. Ohhhh getting to know youuuuuuu....getting to know alllll about youuuuu.

I was hoping for something a little more exotic than Schenectady...everybody knows Schenectady...Or maybe I think everybody knows it because I'm from NY. (?)

Those Native American names can be tricky to pronouce...NYS is littered with them...I wonder why????

I almost moved to Schenectady for a job in the early 80s. I turned it down, though, because they weren't giving me enough time to find a place to live, and the money wasn't that great. But in an Alternate Universe, Flukie and I are neighbors!

I know what you mean. Like that state where Boston is. What is it? Just looks like a bunch of random letters to me.
