When I had it demonstrated by someone from that area, I didn't pick up even the hint of a light 'L' in the middle. It was more like "Skookle", accent on the first syllable. I've heard it most often as Puh-KIP-see.
No one in my family ever pronounced the first 'L', and it's one of those local names that outsiders never know how to say. No biggie. I recall the Schuylkill Expressway was often referred to in the eighties as the Sure Kill Expressway because of the volume of accidents on it. There's a section of Philly called Olney, and the residents there actually stretch it to three syllables, saying Ol-eh-nee.
That's how I've always said it. I was there often enough years ago, went out with a girl who went to Marist, used to go to concerts at this bar up there too.
Yeah, that's about right. Like I said, if there's an l, it's almost not there (but maybe it's not there). I take it that's not right?
