What's Your Name?

I vaguely recalled you were originally from Brandenburg but I wasn't sure anymore and didn't want to say something wrong. Anyway, the 'non-existing Bielefeldians' part was just meant as a friendly jab.
Sorry, some things are better said in German:

Glaub' mir, ich hab' durchaus verstanden, dass es sich um eine freundschaftliche Neckerei handelt. Tut mir wirklich Leid, falls das von meiner Seite anders herübergekommen sein sollte. Das lag sicherlich nicht in meiner Absicht. Wenn ich jetzt nochmal nachlese, was ich geschrieben habe, kann ich sehen, wie das auch anders aufgefasst werden kann.

Wir sind immer noch Freunde, oder nicht? :)

I know it's not the same sound and I never said it was. But I believe that most people unfamiliar with German wouldn't hear a difference.
Hm, I don't want to argue about such trivial matters. Let's just say that you are wrong and I am right, okay? :D

Yep, like that. :) (I personally like to emphasise the z a little more because otherwise it often is omitted when people write it down.)
Yeah, you are right, I should have emphasised it a little more. It's actually a rather complicated string of letters.

Godfrey, as in Godfrey the Bear.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute. So your name is really Godfrey? I thought you were joking once.

It's a ... nice ... eh ... name, though. :shifty:

Well, regional animosities are serious business. :p
Actually, I wasn't sure whether my remarks had rubbed you the wrong way. Just wanted to make sure there were no misunderstandings. In a written medium these things are sometimes hard to tell. So yeah, still friends. :)

Or the other way round... ;)

To put it mildly. ;) It only really gets fun when you try to book something abroad on the phone. And even here, many people just panic when they see this string of consonants in the middle of it.

I think he's still joking. But I like that name. I have a weakness for certain old-fashioned names.

Have you ever heard of a Godfrey the Bear? ;)

There was a Bear called Ben though, and I've been led to believe that he was quite gentle.

Since we're going on a bit about name mispronunciations, I'd like to lodge a complaint against m name. My last name is, in my mind at least, easy to say, logical to spell, and not hard to confuse. Yet, people still do it.

Adamchick. Pronounced just like it's spelled...Adam-chick...yet, it gets morphed in the weirdest ways. I had a teacher who said it A-damn-chick the whole year. I corrected her, but she still said it like that. Then there are those who pronounce it Adam-check. The bugs me...a lot, but I think it may be a quirk of the local dialect. And people are always adding extra letters when they spell it. Maybe if I had a name like...Smith...things would be a bit less confusing. :vulcan:

Well, it is an unusual name. Seeme to be a derivation from Adamczek, and maybe that's what people assume you name is when they hear it.

Jochem
I can't tell you how it's pronounced, as I don't think there's an equivalent of the J and ch in english.

My last name causes me my share of trouble too. I like it, it's Isbell, pronounced like the two words 'is' and 'bell'. I think it sounds pretty with my full name: Hannah Beth Isbell. Inevitably, though, people read "Isabel." Which I can't blame them for, except for the surprisingly high number who refuse to concede to my expertise when it come to the pronunciation of my own name. I say, "No, Izzzbell," "Isabel?" they say? What is most annoying though, is that everyone then assumes that Isabel is my first name, so they ask, "Last name please," and I reply, "Isbell," and they become frustrated and look at me like I'm an idiot and say "Last name." And of course Hannah is a common enough last name, which means people assume I am Isabel Hannah, and I always am filed under H instead of I.

Well, it's mildly irksome, at least.

And since I'm absolutely unable to pronounce an Italian "r" you will be a Pierre with a weird spelling and a lot of froufrou ;)
And I'm sure you would be just utterly cute saying it.

Wow, that's really a lovely name! Very "Home on the Range". Expect to be called Hannah Beth a lot because I really love it! :D

Try being put down as "Rocky" and filed as a guy. Slightly uncomfortable!
 Ok, now I understand the "yo Adrian" joke. Ehm, sorry for laughing... :shifty:
