What's your mutation?

My hearing is extremely sensitive to vibration. I routinely hear my cell phone on vibrate from the other room on the carpet. At MEPS when they tested my hearing I heard the ultra low frequencies at the 5 and 10 dB levels, probably related. But in normal conversational tones, half the time I can't hear shit

I am not alive yet not dead, sorta. Not sure how this mutation can cause problems, but most people are not concerned by this fact.

My kidneys are fused together, a condition known as horseshoe kidney.

Also, I have little appetite and don't gain weight even when I try to.

So that begs the question, Asbo -- which one of us is Mr. Glass?

I'm Mr Glass-half-empty, and I'm definitely not unbreakable.

One more thing -- I believe my eyesight might be sensitive to the lower end of the UV spectrum as I see colours off the end of rainbows that others do not (sort of like pale "electric" blue and pink).

I can move the ankle bone on my right side by flexing one of my leg muscles. It produces a really creepy popping sound and you can actually see the bone moving under the skin. Oddly enough, I can't do this with my left ankle.

I wouldn't call it a mutation, but this is the closest I can do.

I radiate a lot of heat. So if I'm sat somewhere for a few minutes, and then someone else takes my seat, they'll often remark that it's like sitting in an oven, and then they'll stand up and say they want to wait a couple of minutes for the chair to cool down.

If people cuddle me they sometimes say the same thing. I'm too hot to handle.

I rarely perspire however, so I must radiate enough heat to stay at correct temperature.

I don't have nails on either of my little toes. It's really weird. I call them the Freak Toes.

My elbows also bend the wrong way slightly. I think there's a technical name for it but I can't think what it is. It makes carrying shopping bags really painful after a while.

I also have one of those weird memories where I can remember trivial little things from years ago, yet will completely forget what I'm talking about mid-sentence. I have actually forgotten my name on occasion.

And I have a weird kind of clumsiness. I never injure myself when doing stupid things like using a sharp knife to open a tin (tin opener broke and housemate needed a tin opening) but can injure myself doing normally safe things like the time I was walking along the street with my sister and smacked my hand full force into a streetlight. It wasn't even like I hadn't noticed the streetlight either...

That's interesting. Is your body temperature higher than normal?

Hmmm. Have you been tested for bee genes?

Useless without X-rays!

Apparently, people who've had operations to remove cataracts can see in the UV as human red, green, and blue cone cells are all sensitive to those wavelengths. It's the lens in the human eye that usually blocks UV. I haven't had an operation for cataracts so I can only assume that my lenses contain less hydroxyapatite or whatever the mineral is that blocks UV. That's my theory. Buzzzzz.

Or for drugs?

Well, it's not like it's useful. I don't feel the need to gather nectar and take it down to Buckingham Palace. If I did that, I probably would be put under medication. As I mentioned, human cone cells are known to be sensitive to UV, so it's probably my lenses that might be a bit wacko (assuming it's not just me).

I don't know. I've never felt the need to measure it.

But one thing that may be related is that I can't stand warm baths. I need them to be hot... and by hot I mean at temperatures that most people would suffer.

Also related: on the rare occasions that I do start to perspire, it is because I'm overheating, and I'll know I have to cool myself down quickly, because perspiration (and radiating) alone won't be enough. If I do nothing, I will feel as if my body temperature is soaring, and various disabling symptoms will strike me over the course of 5 minutes.

That overheating thing happened maybe 20 times when I was young, and both of my parents had the same thing in their youth, but we grew out of it in our 20s. The last time it happened to me was about 3 years ago. Neither of my parents radiate heat like I do however.
