what's your local weather?

A Tornado warning just expired, and a Flash Flood warning just went into effect. Rain has cut visibility to about 100 feet.

My house flooded at 4am. Water rose so fast that the fire department had to rescue my mom with a kayak. House had about 5 feet of water inside by the time we got out. Car is totally waterlogged too. We're okay for now in hotel.

HOLY CRAP!! So sorry to hear that. To say "that blows" doesn't really cover it. I hope you can get your house put back together in a relatively short amount of time. Will your insurance cover your hotel stay?

Yikes, I hope you can salvage at least some of your stuff from your house.

Damn! I'm so sorry to hear this, Gary! I hope you're able to get quickly whatever assistance you need to get things cleaned up and back to normal.

Thanks guys. I'm stuck in the hotel because of so many people needing rental cars so I don't even know if the water went down yet. Probably won't be able to salvage much. The water was coming up so fast that by the time fire rescue got my mom out of the house on a kayak, the water in the house was up above our chests. When we called 911 the water was just 3 inches.
We didn't have flood insurance because after the house flooded in 2001 they jacked up the rates so much. The county put in several flood control improvements they said we probably wouldn't need the insurance and everything worked for 23 years. The storm hit Sarasota much harder than expected and we weren't even told to evacuate.

It was cloudy and windy when we were out walking the dogs this morning, and we were supposed to have a chance of rain this afternoon, but now it's mid afternoon and there's just a bit of wind, and just a few clouds. So I don't think the rain is going to happen.

I'm so glad you both made it out safely. Water can rise so quickly! We live near a river and if the wind is in the right direction during a big storm, the river comes up the canals and ditches like gangbusters. I hope your home will be ok and you can return soon.
