We got a tiny bit of snow but it has warmed up to the upper 30's and is raining. Temperatures will start falling again soon and tonight is supposed to be the coldest of the season with the low at about 4⁰.
It has been snowing all day, and is expected to continue for the rest of the day. It is forecast to be our worst snowfall day of the season so far. I can take comfort in two things, though. One is that I don't have to go out anywhere today. And the other is that at least I don't live in Newfoundland. https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1218253779650392064 https://twitter.com/etrevorpowell/status/1218291796838699008/photo/1
^ Ow that is horrible! Those poor people. I used to love snow, but it has made me feel uneasy ever since it caused the car accident I was in. I’m glad you don’t have to go out, AA.
^ Thank you. I'm sorry to hear about the accident. I hope it wasn't too serious. As for the weather, the snow actually let up not too long after I posted. It's going again now, but it hasn't been constantly all day like they were predicting. And I see our warning has been downgraded to a watch. For the people of Newfoundland, the federal government has approved the province's request for assistance, which includes sending in the army to help with the cleanup. https://www.theweathernetwork.com/c...-snowfall-st-johns-strong-winds-power-outages
Yeah, the weather in NL is chaotic you could say. They got hit with what is being called a bomb cyclone. They essentially got 30-Inches in 24 hrs, some streets getting 15-ft snowdrifts, and cars being completely covered. There have been groups going around digging cars out on the streets. I've even seen a guy on twitter post someone snowboarding down a street! https://earther.gizmodo.com/check-out-the-historic-weekend-blizzard-canadians-are-s-1841100561
it has been unusual "warm" all January, so far.... (crossing my fingers.. i work outdoors) the avarage for january the last ten years are -5 °C to 0°C, so far its been more like 0°C to 6°C.
It's been pouring down rain all damn day. Not at all cold for the this time of year, either--about 57 F at nearly 11: 30 pm.
earth is being too goddamn lazy to snow. just wants to hover a degree or two above freezing and drizzle. finish up or get out of the bathroom, earth.
Murphyish! Yesterday in the morning it was warm and spring-like. The perfect morning for taking a stroll and enjoying the scent of the moist soil. In the afternoon, I had an appointment at the hospital and it drizzled but was still warm. After my appointment I watched a huge black cloud swallowing the neighbouring town (the hospital is on a hilltop and offers spectacular views =) ). It thundered twice and then, within seconds, we got a hailstorm with hailstones the size of big peas and with very sharp edges. I had to seek shelter under the helicopter platform but nevertheless got soaked to the skin and suffered a few abrasions on my hands (I had put my rucksack over my head to protect my face, but my hands were exposed). After 5 mins it turned into rain but the whole town was 2 inches deep in hailstones until evening. And when I got up at 5 this morning we had 3 inches of snow and a blizzard so that I had to call a taxi instead of walking to work. The taxi kept slipping and sliding, though, since the snow was not flaky but round and it felt like driving on peas. So far (it's high noon now) the police counted 70 accidents. One complete fool was on the road with summer tires (that'll be expensive: his insurance won't pay a cent and he ruined not only his mercedes but also hit a truck and a wall). Right now the storm has settled and the snow is starting to melt. Figures, as I am in my warm and dry office. However, in 3 hours, when I go home, it's bound to start again LOL.
