I'm fine with the shape of the crest being Kryptonian in origin. But not the "S" coincidence. It's like the classic skit goes:

Batman: You got a stupid "S" on your chest, in case we could forget who you are.
Supes: It's my people's symbol for "hope".
Batman: "Hope" starts with an "H", stupid!​

You can thank Marlon Brando for that. IIRC, it was his idea for Jor-El (in the 1978 film) to wear the symbol which would later become Superman's S shield.
