What's Your Holodeck Fantasy?

I'm surprised that people actually want to stick their dick in an artificial human being. I personally don't think I'd use the holodeck for my sexual fantasies... unless it's with another human being.

Wouldn't it be mostly electromagnetic fields and light? That isn't really an "artificial human".

What I would really enjoy are those interactive stories like the Sherlock Holmes or Dixon Hill stories in TNG. That'd be smashing. Or use it for a roleplaying group.
Tres awesome!

Ya, or just watching a movie in 3d and not need to wear glasses.

I was actually wondering how to word it and honestly I don't care. I suppose "artificial human" works well enough considering it's artificial and has human form. But that doesn't really change anything about the message I was trying to convey anyway. ;)

That might be cool enough although I don't like 3D movies a lot either. But I'd definitely prefer using it for more interactive stuff. :)

Let's put it this way, is it really less dignified than using pictures in a magazine? It's equally undignified, and much more effective.

I like the roleplaying group idea. Instead of rolling dice and telling a story, the DM is behind the controls, controlling the scenario as it goes along.

Interactive stories would have to be more Mass Effect style than Sherlock Holmes style. 'Choose your own adventure' stories. A detective story would be more like a game because most people wouldn't be able to solve a Sherlock Holmes story without already knowing the result. And you would really have a choice: Imitate the Holmes character like Data did, or play yourself as a detective in which case you would be losing the literary value of the story.

Hey, in Elementary Dear Data, why couldn't Data just delete his 'Sherlock Holmes mystery solutions' file?

Keeping it clean, I'd have to say some kind of superhero scenario where I get to enjoy holographically-imbued powers.

Or a holographic date with the man of my dreams, lovely food, nice wine, comfortable ambiance, just a perfect evening (of course if things got a little more X-rated then that wouldn't be a bad thing either).

I'm surprised that you're surprised:lol:

Think of the popularity of various "substitutes" for a flesh and blood sexual partner NOW, as primitive as they are, and then multiply that by 1,000x with a holodeck that give you form and allows you to create whatever personality you want. Human nature being what it is, I'm guessing that if holodecks were possible, they'd be used the majority of the time for sexual fantasies.

^ Yeah, and: one doesn't need to remove or even open one's pants or to use the holodeck for adult purposes. ;)

Considering the lack of privacy in the holodeck I think it makes sense that they would keep it safe for work. People seem to be able to walk into eachother's holodeck programs at will.

well, that's in the case of personnel on a military vessel. They might have a diminished expectation of privacy, just as sailors in the Navy can get their stuff on the ship searched at the drop of a hat.

One would hope that private citizens at Quark's holosuites get locks on the door, though.;)

Geez, I wouldn't be surprised if Quark's holosuites featured a drain in the floor and a mandatory wash-down between customers.

A crew member with good hacking skills could find his way around this. . . :rommie:

Another interesting question is how people would view doing things in holodecks to fake people that would be horribly evil if you did them to real people.

Could people who have the compulsion to be serial killers prevent themselves from murdering real people by doing it to holographic people? Rapists? Could gun nuts have programs where they massacre innocent people for fun like in Grand Theft Auto and this be seen as normal? Or would this just reinforce the urge to do it to real people?

24th century man has an evolved sensibility.

or so we hope!

As for me, I think it's an easy answer: look at the top selling video games or anything of great interest. Who would keep up with sports when they can just make themselves the captain of their own dream team? Why would people play chess when they can instead just fight the battle of Gettysburg against each other?

Basically I look at the Holodeck as a total reality breaking as far as the show goes, but it makes for some good episodes here and there. I do like how there is a longstanding continuity for Worf and his workout program.

I would use it to "be" ( for one, brief, shining moment) someone or something I am not...

I don't think most people enjoy chess because it's such a great war simulator.

I don't think so either, but my point is that people would probably live their lives inside the Holosuite and never get anything done.

I look at holodeck episodes and time travel in the same way: It makes for good episodes, but it's not something you take seriously or think too much about.
