What's your absolute favourite videogame ever?

My favorite game would have to be Star Trek: Bridge Commander. I've wasted more hours playing that than any other game ever thanks to all of the awesome mods for it over the years. I still play it today eight years since it came out.

I made the point over at Trek Gaming that Bridge Commander has got to be one of my worst experiences in modding in any game I have come across. I've never come across a large, stable mod pack that isn't unstable/broken in some way and will cause a crash randomly. Worse still, they all seem to break single player which I think is far more endearing that the blow 'em style in Quick Battle. Any smaller mod pack, then you usually find balance differences between the modders especially when it comes to the ships. One person's Akira might have more firepower than another's Sovereign for example.
I just don't think the Bridge Commander engine is desinged to accomodate all the transformations the mods bring, no matter how genius they might be. I might try the occasional retexture mod for shields, starfields and ships etc. but that would be my limit.
It might seem boring, but I prefer Bridge Commander untouched, but even then I don't exactly rate the game highly.
The Kobyashi Maru pack is pretty stable and a lot of fun. But you're right about mods wrecking single player. If you want to play single player you need an unmodded version. The game looks so much better now with the new ships and backgrounds that have been crafted for BC over the years. It's actually amazing what the modders have been able to do with the old BC engine.

The KM mod is actually the mod I tried out. I tried warping to a few "new" systems for example, only for the game to crash. I can only assume that some system files are missing. Other mods included with it, such as Distress Call also crashed when several ships came warping in. I've also tried the Star Charts mod once, an that wasn't exactly stable either.
I'm sorry, but for me, the trade-off isn't worth it. I'd much rather keep single player intact. As for the engine, I just don't think it can handle the modifications, such as NanoFX.

I understand there's a fan-made game called BC2 in the works. I hope that it will improve things.

Mine favourites are:

Shooter: Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Assassin's Creed I & II
Racing: Forza Motorsport 3
RPG: Fallout 3...

EA Hockey (Megadrive/Genesis)
CoD4
Football Manager/Championship Manager
Mass Effect
Uncharted 2

I have a VERY long list of favorite games but these turn up in my mind instantly when asked this question.:)

Doom I, II, Ultimate Doom, Oh yeah...
Dune II :techman:
Starcontrol I, II
Unreal Tournament GOTY edition.. I STILL play it a lot.
Borderlands, Love it, Brilliant, fun fun fun! :techman::rommie:

One single game out of everything I've ever played? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES.

This game was the second game I ever owned personally, and one of the most fiendishly difficult games I've ever played or watched anyone play. It's also got one heck of a storyline that encompasses everything that was great about the old TMNT cartoon of the 80s and 90s.

SimCity. Best. Game. Ever.

Although the original is in the back of my top 10, I absolutely love SimCity 4! I used to play it all of the time, but I lost the second disk, it got scratched, and now I can't install it on any computer.

SimCity 3000 comes next, although the only thing it needs for it to be my favorite is the transportation options and the ability to drive a car around the town/city.
