What's your absolute favourite videogame ever?

So tempting to say Saints Row 1/2 cos I keep going back to them, or Half Life or Goldeneye (the definitive PC and console shooters) but overall I think I'll go with the one that made me a proper rather than casual gamer even though I haven't played it in a dozen years cos it won't run on newer machines (and so desperately needs a remake, especially a console version):

I'm well aware I'm one of the few people how loves Wind Waker, but I really do have such fun playing it and never want to put it down once I'm playing it. Thought the graphics were awesome, really dug the cell-shaded style.

Yeah, I am going to have to go with X-Wing as well. I loved that game and the Collector's Edition had sooo much content.

My ship of choice was the titular X-Wing. I would set my firing rate to all at once and one-shot TIEs. Lining up the perfect shot and then doing a roll to find my next target... perfection.

In terms of combination of narrative, original setting/universe as well as gameplay, it would have to be Mass Effect (especially part 1, as it set the stage in a very epic manner). ME2 gets points for continuity (awesome attention to detail as evidenced in countless references in private messages, dialogues etc.) and gameplay improvements, but it can't quite compare to ME1.

KOTOR was already a great western RPG, but ME allowed Bioware to create their own universe, and boy, did they deliver.

In the 80s, I loved the Spectrum version of Dan Dare.

In the 90s, probably The Wind Commander Series.

Since then, I've played mostly first person shooters, but my favourite games nowadays are probably the Mass Effect ones.

90s would have to be the Sonic series of games. Nowadays, I'd probably go with the Prince of Persia series. I certainly regard The Sands of Time to be one of my all time favourites.

Late in the war, during the Red Army's Vistula-Oder offensive of January-February 1945, Soviet forces are attacking a German-held airfield near Krakow.

I've just managed to blow up both a German tank and a German half-track with satchel charges. Take that, fascist bastards!

Yes, absolutely. An improved and expanded version of the mod was released as a stand-alone game, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, in 2006.

In addition to various updates, and user-created expansions like Carpathian Crosses, there are two total conversion mods: Mare Nostrum (North Africa and the Mediterranean) and Darkest Hour (Western Front 44-45).

The game's producers, Tripwire Interactive, are currently working on a sequel, Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, which uses Unreal Engine 3. It's scheduled for release this fall.
