What's your absolute favourite film ever?

While it's not my favorite movie, there's this little place in my heart for "The Stranger" (Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson, Loretta Young).
Just my opinion, Edward G. Robinson was at the apex of "top notch" at this point.

This is a tough one. I usually tap Apocalypse Now as #1, but 'favourite' isn't an adjective I'd use to describe it. To my mind, it suggests a film which is at least vaguely life-affirming.

I'll go with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

It's a toss-up between "Scarface" (1983) and "Say Anything...". I can't think of two movie characters I find more endlessly entertaining than Tony Montana and Lloyd Dobler.

I now proclaim Eraserhead my favorite film.

Neat-o! on the very day I watch it for the first time. :D I think "Blue Velvet" is a pointless, stupid piece of trash, but I've enjoyed all the other David Lynch movies I've seen so far ("The Elephant Man" and "Mulholland Dr."). At the moment, I can't decide which one I like more between "Eraserhead" and "Mulholland Dr.", but it's definitely one of his very best.

More thoughts here .

Strongly disagree on Blue Velvet, but Muholland Dr. is one of his best. I don't think either is up to Eraserhead though. I find it to be so rewatchable.

I think it may have the best sound in a movie. The industrial noises and electricity, the vaudeville music and the mutant baby noises, it's terriffic.

Seems you've seen the three really great Lynch films. Most of the others are worth it too, and Twin Peaks is really worth it, up there with his best films.us
