its a Canon PowersShot A70. Ive had it since 2004. Lately its been taking pics that look like this :

(these are just some plastic disney figures in front of my tv)

Cant find anything about it in the troublshooting section of the manual. Time to get a new camera? :(

they all look like that! They even show up like that on the lcd screen viewer too. Sometimes the image will steady & the pics will come out ok but I have to take a lot of dud pics to get one good pic! Its annoying!

Wowee, that's cool, but inconvenient. Unfortunately, it's definitely time to get a new camera.

I don't know what that is. I would say six years is a damn good run for a point and shoot digicam, though.

It's just not worth the cost of getting it diagnosed and fixed, if anybody would even do it. If you've had this camera since 2004, you'll be able to get a better one for less than it would take to fix this one.

You camera is photographing the spirit world. You should contact the Ghost Hunters (tm) immediately! I would imagine they would pay big money for another piece of equipment that they don't know how to use and doesn't actually do anything anyway.

one more pic- I think this one is rather interesting :p

yeah, keep it! you never know what sort of interesting images you could make with it :D
but also get a new one for normal use

I've got good news!

That's a known manufacturing fault with the CCD used in various Canon cameras built from 2004 onwards. And, believe it or not, Canon will probably repair your camera free of charge, even though it's 6 years old!

I've got a Powershot A75 that I bought in 2004 that developed that fault only a few months ago, and, sure enough, Canon repaired it free of any cost whatsoever!

To quote Canon:

Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, the products listed above exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if Canon determines that the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.

Here's the link that you need to quote when putting your camera in for repair. I contacted Canon directly and sent my camera to them for repair, so that may be the best way to get yours fixed, as the retailer you bought it from may not want to know, or may not be aware of the free repair situation:

^^ That's great. The A70 is listed, too. You should definitely go for this, melancholymecha.
