What's with the *scream* I keep hearing in movies?

Most of the time I am indifferent to the "Wilhelm Scream" but there's plenty of times when it has been used where it doesn't fit the situation or the character supposedly uttering it.

Add me to the number of people who hate "injokes" like the Wilhem Scream. It takes me RIGHT out of the movie. It's time it was retired.

Yeah, God forbid people making movies have any fun with them...
It depends on the context, IMHO.

The Wilhelm Scream is amusing in Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark but it feels out of place in Game of Thrones.

It's even in a current Coors Light commercial. A bunch of beer dogs chase after a mailman and he utters the Wilhelm as he dives over a hedge for cover. :D

It's good when used in moderation. But when it's inserted into just about every piece of media imaginable, it's just annoying.

I'm wondering about that "olde time" car screeching sound.. That seems to be everywhere too.. The most obvious use I can remember was in Kevin Costner's now VERY dated and trite Untouchables, when Elliot Ness's gang comes rumbling down the street and comes to a halt near his house after his family is threatened.. I can't seem to access Youtube today from this computer, otheriwse I'd post it.. Seems to be used in lots of cartoons. In the movie, it was very out of place, sound quality-wise.
