What's up with the weird hair styles for the characters?

Finishing up on the last episode of Season 2 and I have to say or wonder about the hair styles not just for Strange New Worlds but also for Discovery.

Whats up with the really odd looking hair styles for some of the characters? the only normal hair style I actually like is for the Carol Kane character

You are right. As science-fiction shows set in a far away future full of people from a multitude of alien backgrounds, what sense does it make that the hairstyles don’t match what you see in your day to day life? Hollywood producers seem to have this strange notion of hiring young professional hairstylists for some reason, who then go ahead and create looks for the characters that are just weirdly modern and maybe even provocative or daring to some viewers. What they really should do is give them everyday hairstyles that don’t raise any eyebrows anywhere. Really, I wish the producers of Strange New Worlds and Discovery would confer with you to make sure every hairstyle decision isn’t deemed too weird by your personal sensibilities. Thanks for bringing important matters like this one and the fact that a genetically altered alien woman can lift another alien on her shoulder to our attention and get us talking about them. :techman:

There's a whole spectrum of human hairstyles that ranges from rat's nest at one end to modern art sculpture at the other. Somewhere in the middle, you have "normal".

Essentially, what's considered professional - the kind of hairstyle that wouldn't run afoul of an average professional environment's dress code.

Honestly, I think it's odd that all the men in Starfleet (except Worf in later seasons and Neelix in alternative realities) have short, neat hair. Surely there are some human or Federation cultures in which men normally wear it long.

Back in the days when TOS was all there was, I seem to recall reading (in TMOST? TWOST?) that Roddenberry wanted to do some futuristic hairstyles. But except for a few women's hairdos (which could be done with wigs, or combed out at the end of the shooting day), he basically settled for normal 1960s hair styles, particularly for the men, with only the addition of pointed sideburns.

Today, the acceptable range of hairstyles for both genders is orders of magnitude broader than what was considered normal in the 1960s. I'll admit that Detmer's post-implant hairstyle, and Ortegas' hairstyle, did make me blink at first (they almost look just a little bit punk to me!), but theirs are not the first ST hairstyles that I found a little startling. Nechayev's hairstyle in TNG: "Chain of Command, for example."

What's up with the weird posts?

whats up with the people that reply where they don't think the new Star Trek shows are just weird to begin with where they have weird stuff in them such as tall women carrying aliens over their shoulder Crap like that I'll tolerate if its from The Simpsons or Futurama..

Even Harry Mud in Discovery was just awful hes like a one man mercenary fast on his feet "terrorist" or whatever. in original Star Trek, wasn't he supposed to be some kind of hedonistic sex perv or something?

Or simply a very efficient way to demonstrate a character's hidden strengths.

I am failing to see why showing additional attributes is awful and/or weird. I guess if you like a series, you'll usually approve and if you dislike a series, you'll be pointing at things you consider to be faults. That is not weird either. Quite understandable.

I loved what DSC and "Short Treks" did with Harry and Stella Mudd.

How on earth is that strange? women can lift men if they are strong enough.
Anyway, she's a genetically modified alien.
