What's up with the next James Bond movie?

As for Salmon. I would like it if they brought him back. I rather liked Charles. I'd like to see both he and Tanner have more to do in the current continuity.
And there's another thing... I liked Michael Kitchen's Tanner. A shame he only did those two Brosnan films.

And if you want to hear an example of a British actor screwing up when doing a more regional American accent, listen to Dominic West try to do a Baltimore accent on The Wire.

Jude Law in the atrocious film I Heart Huckabees. Terrible American accent.

And Sean Connery wasn't perfect in his English accent either when playing Bond, he slipped from time to time.

Well, I like the new guy. (Kinnear, or whatever.) Kitchen was good, but he was too much of a pencil-pusher. This guy seems more like someone who Bond can be chums with. After all, in the novels, Tanner was pretty much Bond's best friend.

Then there's Michael Caine doing a Maine accent in The Cider House Rules. It may technically be a good accent but I just don't think that man sounds right doing anything but Cockney.

About the next film, I got the feeling that Quantum was the second act in a trilogy so I hope they finish the trilogy.

That was the original plan, but they ended up scrapping the original ending to QoS that would have led into the next movie. From the few bits that have been reported, the next Bond won't be a sequel to QoS, and will be a standalone film with its own storyline.

It might be standalone, but I'd find it hard to believe they scrapped brining Quantum back into it. Hell, since they cut the ending where Mr. White was killed, it seems like they'd want to bring him back for a third film.

I have to read this entire thread in more detail. I haven't seen QoS yet, but I intend to watch it even though I do not like Casino Royale. My favorites are still Dalton's duo, and I don't understand how people can love Craig's dark and generic action sans traditional Bond motifs and still be anti Dalton.

If Craig looks old and blond and looks 48 then they should just have rebooted with Sean Bean ;0)

Craig isn't even 48, he's 40, same age as me.

And Sean Bean is Richard Sharpe, end of. He's just too well known and too natural as Sharpe for me to put that aside and see him as Bond. (Mind you, this didn't stop Roger Moore playing Bond as Simon Templar and getting away with it)

Plus Bean's already played a memorable Bond villain. Sure, Joe Don Baker played Jack Wade after playing a villain in The Living Daylights, but that's different. :p

Also, like you said, Sean Bean played a memorable Bond villain. I doubt that Brad Whitaker would rank very high on folks' list of the best Bond villains.

Quite funny you should mention that, he's actually in my top three:

1. Elliot Carver
2. Brad Whitaker
3. Gustav Graves

...I am lying, of course :p

Yes I love Sean Bean as Sharpe, too, and it would be impossible for him to reappear I know. I mean that its a shame that the rights are all blocked up again and there aren't any loopholes like in the past where others could make their own spoofs or rival pictures. It would be great if Bean got to do an old action rugged Bond and say 'Sharpe as ever' and other puns akin to 'Unlike other Robin Hoods, I can speak with a British accent!'

Craig is only 40? He looks so old and bleached and dried up like he's been tanning too long.
