What's The CW Going To Do Now?

but you like the Vampire Diaries????? :wtf: That's nothing but teenaged twaddle. It's lip gloss and cotton candy vampires whose only advantage is that they don't sparkle. Nina Dobrev as Elena and Catherine is so terrible an actress. Ian Sommerhalder is decent. Everyone else is completely subpar. The stories are more for the ADHD crowd. Color me shocked that for all your standards, you like that hot mess of a show.

You are entitled to your opinion and all but I don't agree at all with this.

I don't think so. I think she did a good job portraying the squeaky clean Elena and the conniving seductress Katherine.

It wasn't like Nina can only be Nina and has no acting range. And you can't tell me that there is no difference between Elena and Katherine--Nina plays the two entirely differently--her posture, her delivery.

And the rest of the cast is fine to me.
The stories are more for the ADHD crowd.
Yes the show is fast paced but there seems to be only two speeds these days when it comes to pacing on television shows--fast paced leaving your head spinning like TVD, LOST etc or so slow paced that you could go for a run and come back and not have missed anything i.e. Mad Men, The Killing, Caprica etc.

Sure I'd like shows to be more balanced in their pacing but it isn't anything unique to TVD. It is just the current reality of television.

Well one person's hot mess is another's guilty pleasure. It has a cast of characters I like. It is consistently entertaining--something I can't say for most shows this year. Supernatural is consistent this season but consistentlly bland. TVD is heavily serialized with no filler unlike SN or Fringe. Every TVD episode focuses on the core material and drives it forward each and every week. In this day and age with stale storytelling TVD actually has a lot of nice surprises, twists and turns you don't see coming. It is exciting. I like that it is deadly serious and doesn't do comedies. Simple as that. But in the end it is entertaining and that's why I like it.

Okay here's the acid test. I have time to watch DVDs of one vampire show this summer: True Blood or TVD. I have the notion that it's no contest, True Blood is the far superior show and I have to be out of my frakkin mind to choose TVD instead. True or not?

Not true, I watch both but The Vampire Diaries is the better show. True Blood has a lot of annoying characters and there's way too much sex that doesn't add anything to the show, it screams "We're a cable show, we can show boobs and asses!" ... and they do it all the time, it's ridiculous.

True Blood is entertaining, but it's trash, the only reason people claim it's great is because it's on HBO.

I prefer TVD. I watched True Blood's first two seasons. The first season is okay and the arc is okay. Season two is a mess-the horrible sophomore slump--the only highlight that year was Michelle Forbes. True Blood is campy with a bunch of hick characters and tons of nudity/sex scenes. If you don't like angst and love triangles you won't care for Sookie/Bill.

I gave up on True Blood but am still here with TVD--take that for what you will.

I watch both, True Blood is camp and it knows it, the show has a self-ironic style that I like.
TVD starts as a bad Twilight clone, but after a few episodes it finds it way. It's one of the few shows without any kind of filler episodes, and basically no character is safe...
If you can ignore the teenage angst for the first few episodes it's alot of fun.

I've seen both True Blood and The Vampire Diaries and prefer TVD by a small margin. It's not high art or flawless by any means, but it IS fun, once it gets going.

Do it! Seriously, Nikita is good. The first few episodes are not perfect, but midseason the show really took off. I watched the season finale yesterday, it was my favourite finale of this season so far. The series kicks ass, it's like an action movie every week and the season's storyarc was nice, too. They wrapped it up and changed the status quo for the second season, I hope they don't cancel the show.
Let me echo this. Nikita started off shakey, but I stuck with it and now the show is so good I'm in disbelief. It has so many twists and turns that I'm reminded of early "Alias". The action is really well choreographed (Ray Park's episode was pure win) and the actors are all being challenged to do more than they did in the beginning. I really hope it gets renewed!

Temis, I suggest you watch Being Human, the BBC version.

3 seasons (series) so far, series 1 has 6 episodes, series 2 and 3 have 8. You can polish that off in a week. It is pretty effing good!

But of those 2 choices, I tried TVD and I just can't get past the teenage angst. I'd have to suggest True Blood by default then.

Nikita is surprisingly well made melodrama. They keep increasing the pressure and withholding the sex. People's heads are starting to explode by episode 15.

Here's the true acid test to figure out who is top dog.

Whichever show is cancelled first is the superior effort.

The series with the larger audience, servicing the broadest common denominator, is the worse and more ingratiating (gender irregardless) whore.

I think that TVD is better than True Blood too. True Blood's storylines don't hold up well, even with only 12/13 episodes per season. The first season was pretty good, but the second went off the rails in the second half and they didn't seem to know what to do with Michelle Forbes's character (Forbes did fine but the writing failed her). Season 3 had a lot of potential, but the werewolf thing went no where, Jason's storyline was all over the place, and they pulled their punches on resolving the Russell storyline. He crossed a line that should've resulted in a resolution.

I thought TVD was going to be a Twilight clone, but for some reason I gave it a shot and I got hooked in. I don't have a problem with teenage angst if its well acted, convincingly portrayed, and the TVD crew is ten times better than the Twilight actors across the board in that regard. Plus the women are all hot, esp. Bonnie and Elena. TVD has been a far more consistent show than True Blood, and it has surprised me with its ability to build in all these hooks in every episode and still come off with a satisfying season finale. I don't know how long they can keep up the pace, but I'm looking forward to see what they do next. As for True Blood, I'm giving them one more season of my time.

The only thing True Blood has over TVD is the nudity and graphic violence, even though I was shocked by how violent/dark TVD was from the beginning. It's definitely not a typical CW show, even if it has the trappings of one of their regular shows.

I was pleasantly surprised that TVD was far smarter and much more entertaining than Twilight. But I quit near the end of s1 because it just wasn't doing enough for me. Still, I can see why some people would really enjoy it.

I do still watch True Blood, but it's never been a "good" show. It's wildly uneven, often pulling the "characters act a certain way to advance the plot to the next point" shtick which is really no fun at all. But it has some moments, and when it does I like it far more than what I've seen of TVD. It also has a sense of humor and actors I enjoy.

Add me to the list of people who think Nikita is better than it has any right to be. The show's not perfect by any stretch but it does action as good as ANY show on broadcast TV with some decent characters and engaging continuing storylines.

I keep hearing the same is true of The Vampire Diaries as far as storylines go, but have yet to watch it myself.

Give it a chance over the summer, it's a good show. Just remember that the first few episodes are not that great, but it's worth it.
After the first storyarc was wrapped up and Jeremy stopped being a whiny emo bitch (which didn't take long, it's a fast paced show)the show became a favourite of mine, before that it was just a guilty pleasure.

Vampires diaries is made for 14 year old girls.

.

Gotta disagree with you there. Last time I checked, I'm a fifty-plus pulp writer and I'm hooked on Vampire Diaries. It's way more violent and gory than, say, Twilight, and the plot is nicely twisty. And the dialogue is frequently a hoot.

"Just because a bunch of dead witches gave me a warning doesn't mean I'm going to die!"

VD isn't as good as BUFFY, but it's a fun, supernatural soap opera that reminds me a lot of DARK SHADOWS.

Absolutely agreed.

I really, really hope Nikita gets a second season. They hit the ground running and have yet to stall; and they've really ratcheted things up in the latter third or so of the season. It would be a shame if it ended early.

I hope not...good news for Nikita though. :)

I see they picked up TSC, Hart Of Dixie & H8ER(Reality show).

[edit] OTH is also renewed and a few days ago they picked up Ringer...looks good for CW.
