What's The CW Going To Do Now?

With, I think, one of The CW's best shows is over (Smallville), what's The CW going to do from now on? The only other good show I find remotely interesting on the network is Supernatural, and it's daytime Judge shows. The CW has a lot of good day time stuff to watch, but I've never really got into anything else they show. Suppose I have to start watching Nikita or something. I've seen a few episodes of Hellcats, that show was okay. But are there any big plans for this network this fall?

The Vampire Diaries is the highest rated show on the network actually...they will be just fine as long as they don't expect their shows to break 3 million viewers.

They picked up 'Ringer' Sarah Michelle Gellar's pilot...I hear 'The Secret Circle' is looking good...it is about witches and stars Britt Robertson and that guy from TTSCC. Rachel Bilson has a pilot too 'Hart Of Dixie'. I think Hellcats & Nikita are goners...we shall see though.

^ Pretty much what Jet said. "Supernatural" will be elevated to flagship show status now that "Smallville" is gone. "The Vampire Diaries" seems very strong. I'm slightly interested in SMG's new show and "The Secret Circle" seems like it could be interesting. There were rumors of a "Raven" series (based on the Titans character) but that hasn't really gone anywhere. "Blue Beetle" seems dead as a possibility spin off. I've read zero since "Booster" aired and that episode of "Smallville" was to be a test bed.

Do it! Seriously, Nikita is good. The first few episodes are not perfect, but midseason the show really took off. I watched the season finale yesterday, it was my favourite finale of this season so far. The series kicks ass, it's like an action movie every week and the season's storyarc was nice, too. They wrapped it up and changed the status quo for the second season, I hope they don't cancel the show.

I also really like The Vampire Diaries, it's NOT Twilight! It's a good show, don't write it off because it's about vampires and a human girl. Just don't be scared if you should decide to check out the first few episodes, after they dropped the stupid Diary voice overs the show suddenly became awesome around episode 8 I think. My favourite character is Katherine, she doesn't show up until a few episodes into the series, but it's worth it. The flashbacks to the past are some of the best parts of the first season.

Vampire Diaries is a lot of fun, and the plot moves at a blistering pace. There's a couple of good, jaw-dropping moments in every ep.

It's like a younger, hipper version of DARK SHADOWS--that moves ten times faster!

i saw the pilot of Vampire diaries.

I said NO.

Walked away.

I didn't realize I have standards.

I've seen all of Charmed.

I rewatched 4 seasons of Earth Final Conflict last month but i refuse to sit through another episode of Vampire diaries.

Actually, I downloaded a mislabled file and accidentally came into possession of episode 1.14 of vampire Diaries.

Fears confirmed.

Vampires diaries is made for 14 year old girls.

It will make them money, it will even be successful, but unless at heart you're a 14 year old little girl, not that there's anything wrong with that, the show is swill.

The Secret Circle will satisfy their core audience and Ringer might expand that audience into the more geriatric, over-30 crowd. Between the two, the CW isn't going to fall on its face right away.

As for TVD, I admit, it looked too CW-y for me on first viewing. Does it get more tolerable? I really can't stand any degree of teen angsting.

I really enjoy TVD--consistent, heavily serialized with absolutely no filler, fast pacing, an interesting mythology, fun characters and the angst is non-existent in my opinion--DS9 had more angst with Dax and Worf or Heroes with Isaac/Simone/Peter than TVD in my opinion. And S2 avoided the dreaded sophomore slump. It had one heck of a season finale Thursday. That's why I have high hopes for The Secret Circle--the same people are working on it.

The Smallville showrunners are now bringing The Incredible Hulk to The CW, only they want to show the slow and steady process of how Bruce Banner became the Hulk, so they've invoked a "no Hulk, no smash" policy. :p

banner has been so questionable of late that Hulk, yes, the Hulk, has reversed the current mode of thinking that the Hulk was invented to save the world from Banner and not the other way around that banner resumes control to save the world from the Hulk... Oh, apparently Banner had a lot of mental illness well before the gamma bomb where he was at war with a few hulk-like sides of his personality before they gained the super power to escape and manifest.

Gotta disagree with you there. Last time I checked, I'm a fifty-plus pulp writer and I'm hooked on Vampire Diaries. It's way more violent and gory than, say, Twilight, and the plot is nicely twisty. And the dialogue is frequently a hoot.

"Just because a bunch of dead witches gave me a warning doesn't mean I'm going to die!"

VD isn't as good as BUFFY, but it's a fun, supernatural soap opera that reminds me a lot of DARK SHADOWS.

Hey, I went on to say "at heart".

We all got a 14 year old girl inside us somewhere, and most 14 year old girls have a grumpy old man inside them somewhere too.

(I couldn't have phrased that worse.)

Yes I got to the "We all got a 14 year old girl inside us somewhere" bit and paused for a second :wtf: and then got to the "14 year old girls have grumpy old man inside them somewhere too" bit...

That made me pause :wtf: for several more seconds

Wow. I wasn't aware you liked any shows. :rommie:

I may have to check it out. So we're going into S3 in the fall, right? That gives me all summer to get thru S1-2.

That knock on your door is from Chris Hansen.

:guffaw:

I'm sure that was an accident.

You're right Temis I could have made it worse.

"I don't have a 14 year old girl inside my heart or psyche, but if I did, she'd be in a cage and gagged."

With the cancellation of Hellcats, doesn't that mean that Welling won't be getting no regular paycheck any more?

Poor Tom.

Welling will get residuals on over 200 episodes of Smallville for the rest of his life. He's not going to need a benefit (unless he unleashes his inner Nic Cage).

Finally move Supernatural to a 7pm time slot. It's beaten Smallville a couple of times in the ratings this spring. It's the better show. Always has been.

I sampled the Vampire Diaries a couple of times. It is for 14 year old girls...ones that don't mind a man with a wee bit of hair on his chest, who don't sparkle or look completely like women because they're so pretty a la Pattinson. Supernatural did an episode this season called "Live Free or Twi Hard" which totally mocked Twilight. It was great.

Yeah I can't help it that so much tv is crap but I do enjoy The Vampire Diaries. This just has been a pretty bad year for broadcast tv. I've pretty much sampled everything looking for something I enjoy-The Borgias, Rubicon, Persons Unknown, The Gates, Haven, Caprica, Warehouse 13, True Blood, Camelot, SGU, Mad Men, Dr Who, V, Flash Forward, The Event, Fringe, The Killing, Californication, The Cape to name a few and they just didn't do anything for me. Chuck got stale this year so I stopped watching it. Supernatural was not very interesting this year either. I intend to try Dexter in the near future.

I do try to give shows a shot--some I sample and just can tell it will be garbage, others I'll give a little while especially a serialized drama where you aren't sure what it is actually about. Some like Tru Calling, Jericho, Point Pleasant I liked but got cancelled. I enjoy the sff genre the most and have tried just about every show that came out--Invasion, Threshold, Surface, Dresden Files, The 4400, VANISHED, Daybreak, Dr Who, Torchwood, John Doe, SGA etc.

I've pretty much give up on sitcoms. I used to enjoy cops/lawyers shows when I was a kid and in college but nowadays if you've seen one you've seen them all--nothing new to see.

Yeah it'll be on S3 in Sept. Just a warning I almost gave up on it early on but once you get about 8 episodes in the show gets good and doesn't look back. It isn't deep but it is consistently entertaining and I've never been bored with it.

Startrekwatcher.....you pretty much detest everything else, but you like the Vampire Diaries????? :wtf: That's nothing but teenaged twaddle. It's lip gloss and cotton candy vampires whose only advantage is that they don't sparkle. Nina Dobrev as Elena and Catherine is so terrible an actress. Ian Sommerhalder is decent. Everyone else is completely subpar. The stories are more for the ADHD crowd. Color me shocked that for all your standards, you like that hot mess of a show.
