What's the coolest Star Wars scene of all time.

Bea Arthur does have the only watchable scenes in the Holiday Special. Bea Arthur was an outstanding lady. Golden Girls gets not a tenth of the respect it ought.

I think Phantom Menace is the worst movie by far but I think the fight with Darth Maul is the tops. Yoda fighting Dokku comes a close second as does Han Solo shooting the microphone in the prision unit of the Death star.

Jason

I loved the Darth Maul fight until his lame *ss death happened. "Oh no, he's flipped over top of me. I'm too stunned to react."

My favorites:

Episode 1: First time Maul ignites his double bladed lightsaber and takes on the two jedi.

Episode 2: People love to talk about the Yoda fight, but to me it was nothing more than a bunch of flipping around and twirling. For me I'll take the moment Anakin watches his mother die and then kills the sandpeople.

Episode 3: Tough one because there was so many. I think I'd have to go with Grievous popping out extra arms with lightsabers.

Episode 4: Pretty much any scene with Han Solo. He just had so many cool lines.

Episode 5: "Apology accepted Captain Neda."

Episode 6: Vader throwing the Emporer down the shaft.

Many productions still do use models. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is notable, IMO, for its excellent mix of both CGI and highly detailed model work.

I always liked the scene where Kirk and Sulu were fighting the Romulans on the Space Drill over Vulcan.

THE BATTLE OF HOTH. Snowspeeders and infantry vs. All-Terrain Armored Transports.

Best scene ever. I dunno if anybody else said it, but I'm saying it.

(Honorable mention. Yoda vs. Dooku lightsaber duel)

The scene where Luke takes off Vader's helmet to see his father for the first time.

IF the guy under that helmet is the same guy as in the PT and not some guy who looks like the bastard son of Jabba the Hutt after a three-week bender.

And IF the the guy playing Anakin in the PT were someone good and not the guy they actually got to do it, and IF the PT were good as well.

So basically, I'm waiting for The Clone Wars to make its way to that point. I don't mind if it has to be animated. (And hey, Mark Hamill is available for voice acting work. :D)

Then that will be the Coolest Star Wars Scene of All Time.

The best fifty-words in the whole saga:

"Master Windu. I take it General Grievous has been destroyed, then. I must say you're here sooner than expected."

"In the name of the Galactic Senate of the Republic, you're under arrest, Chancellor."

"Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?"

"The Senate will decide your fate."

"I AM the Senate."

"Not yet."

"It's treason, then."

I've seen that scene dozens of times, and it still gives me chills due to its bad-assery.

I suppose my favorite would be the confrontation between Luke and Vader in Empire, but I really love the speeder-bike chase in Return of the Jedi. One of my all-time favorite action scenes.

Agreed.

Plus, you gotta love the basassery of filling speeder bikes with gasoline so they explode immediately upon crashing! :)

Back in '77, I was blown away by the opening scene above Tatooine with the star destroyer appearing to keep coming on and on while the sound system (primitive as it was) seemed to be making your seat shake.

This, especially in it's proper context of never having seen anything like it.
Thirded. People who saw that scene for the first time via home video and/or have grown up on CGI-laden big-budget effects blockbusters just don't know....

It's held up too. For such a simple, sparse sequence, to me it never fails to be riveting.

My favorite shot may be the rebel fleet pulling away with Luke and Leia framed in the window at the end of The Empire Strikes Back.

Coolest scene is a lot harder to say.

TPM: The Maul fight.

AOTC: The Republic Army going off to the Clone Wars at the end of the film to the Imperial march. Bail Organa's frustration actually summed up the character better than his dialogue did.

ROTS: The shot of Vader's helmet locking into place, complete with the ESB sound effect and the breathing. They actually should've left it at that, instead we got "NOOOOOOO!"

ANH:The trench run.

ESB: Yoda lifting the X-wing.

ROTJ: The Rebels entering the superstructure (With a faster version of the "Here they come" music) and the destruction of Vader's destroyer.

CW: The Walkers climbing the mountain.

ESB: The lights turning on in the carbon freeze chamber and Luke turns to see Vader. "The force is with you, young Skywalker. But you are not a Jedi yet."

AotC: The chase through Coruscant. It is really the only time in the series where we see what the capital is really like.

RotS: Obi-Wan jumped into the middle of Grievous' army. "Hello there!" That could have been a young Alec Guinness right there.

Yes I like that one too, and the galaxy vista they are gazing at is pretty cool too. Just makes me wonder, is that their galaxy (as in, where Tatooine, Bespin, Corellia etc. are at) or is that another galaxy that just happens to be that close to their own? Heh..guess I shouldn't think about it too much.
