What's the Best Way to Keep Tresspasers of Your Yard?

Cannibalism. Eat the trespassers and you have yourself a tasty snack in addition to thinning the herd of unwanted miscreants.

Add a flamethrower to your repertoire and you've got yourself a cooked meal in under 5 seconds.

Another vote for a fence, and/or prickly thorn bushes planted close enough together that no one can get through, leaving room for a lockable gate for you to have access. People used to cut through my parents' back garden as a shortcut, and prickly thorn bushes took care of that. The trouble is that once people start using somewhere as a "right of way" they're very reluctant to cease doing so. Chances are hard tactics will have to be used, so don't discount the land mines or the cannibalism just yet (tastes like chicken...or so I've been told :shifty:).

a group of 8 screaming adults were yelling, blowing whistles and kazoos
Am I the only one hung up on this? Scavenger hunt or not, blowing whistles and kazoos out in public is kind of fucked up. I agree with the others that recommend a fence assuming tiger pits and punji sticks are out of the question.

another fence vote, you can put in a lockable gate, but, if you are totally set against it put up a few trespassers will be shot signs signs, a few wounded or dead trespassers will send the message you need

...a movie which badly needed a flamethrower IMHO.

Come to think of it, I cannot think of a movie which could NOT be improved by the addition of a flamethrower-wielding character.

Citizen Kane - definitely
It's a Wonderful Life - oh yes!
Soylent Green - check
anything made by Disney - yup!

Failing that, my nudity.

Zombies on chains attached to a large pole. Bonus: self-sustaining.

Make a deal with some Weeping Angels. Bonus: nice statuary most of the time.

Tar pit if you prefer the "slowly dying of exposure" method. Bonus: you get to watch them suffer horribly for their terrible sin.

Scavenger hunt or not, blowing whistles and kazoos out in public is kind of fucked up.

Seems pretty harmless.

What are "Weeping Angels"? Google gives many very weird examples... most of which are just creepy.

P.S.- Kestrel, I love your avatar. "Are you my mummy?"

Still, it seems an odd thing for grown-up people to do, unless they're at a sporting event or a New Year's Eve party.
Some people just like to have fun. Besides, the OP's private property is not exactly "public".

Ok... Another vote for a fence with a lockable gate... However, to deter fence cutters/climbers, I would suggest planting a row of hedges/shrubs along the perimeter...

I don't know where you live, but if you're in the US, most states have a seedling program run by their State Forestry Division/Comission (etc) or by their local Soil and Water Conservation Districts... The seedlings are usually sold as bare root or one to two year old stock and in bulk.. Our program here in New Mexico sells 49 seedlings for $64 bucks in small containers.. Bare root stock is sold 50 trees/shrubs for $52 bucks... Lilac makes a wonderful fence runner and it is very hard to get through... I can't speak for other states, but the seedlings we sell are extremely hardy and grow just as fast if not faster than potted plants you get from a hardware store or nursery...
