I love hearing this argument, mainly because I'm nineteen.![]()
I'm not saying it's a legitimate argument, just one that I see a lot of recently, and certainly not just in Star Trek. Heck, even something as uber-geeky and niche as Dungeons and Dragons is going through that right now.
Really, the only real difference between the target of this film and the other ten films is that the upper management seriously committed to trying something new to get it,
And doing something 'new' was never a problem. It was clear that the 'last gen' run was well and good out of steam, and that the blood needed to be changed. The problem was (and is) the sheer hostility that so many people involved had towards other aspects of the franchise. The fact that, for so long, so many proponents of this movie rather openly shared that view, and felt the need to 'defend' the movie by blasting TOS ( in particular ) certainly doesn't help things.
