How do you distinguish between the fan-created folklore which explains glitches like ``James R Kirk'' or turns the plot of ``Unification'' into something which makes sense from the fan-created folklore which gives us unsupported-by-onscreen-evidence things like a second five-year mission for Kirk following The Motion Picture or the Klingon-Romulan alliance from around the third season of the Original Series?

As for the OP: the prime definition--as given--is gratuitous unnecessary "canon fiction" to fill gaps in continuity. Of course, a possibly unique case in Star Trek is a plot with too many "uberness" elements. Alot of things in Nemesis would qualify under the latter definition.
