Whatever Happened to "tough love"?

No. We want specific examples of what YOU mean. Besides, I already addressed the Wiki examples in my first post when you mentioned that as your source. You ignored that, as you usually do any point that challenges your argument.

Will the wikipedia definition help?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tough_love

From that page:

There is evidence to suggest that what the British call tough love can be beneficial in the development of preferred character traits in children up to five years old. However, the British definition used by these researchers is more similar to the concept of "authoritative" parenting, whereas American ideas about tough love are closer to the notion of "authoritarian" parenting, which has been linked with negative outcomes in other research.

Asked and answered. Mods, feel free to spam the thread with pictures of cats.

The fact that so many need parameters or definitions indicates that they have neither experienced nor meted out "tough love".

When I was a kid it was just parenting.

Oh, shut up. Everyone is well aware of what it is, they just want to hear his examples, since he's got, shall we say, a unique outlook on life. Now quit looking to provoke a response, because you're taking Knight's fun away from him.

Well, that was pleasant. Have a nice day.

What does he even mean by "tough love?"

Not allowing a teenager of driving age to have access to a car because of perceived or even proven misbehavior? Grounding a kid for an entire month or two because he or she did something objectionable in the eyes of the parents? Harsh spankings and verbal treatment? Expelling a child from the family because she came out of the closet and was honest about who she really was?

Given the OP has admitted in the past that the house he lives in and the job he works came through family connections I'm not sure he's even family with tough love to begin with.

There was no expecting him to go out and work for it, it came on a platter.

Right, because you were being so pleasant with your implication of sheltered upbringings and poor parenting on the part of the posters in the thread.

i think this threads a typo, its really about 'dough love', the sex act which involves your penis and ring-shaped doughnuts

Well, personal examples would be difficult as neither I nor my siblings ever did anything really wrong prior to moving away from home. None of us drank, did drugs, smoked or anything of that nature. We didn't get speeding tickets or hang out with the wrong crowd of people.

At least while we lived at home. We all had a hard and fast curfew and we were not allowed to have boyfriends (my sisters) or girlfriends (myself and my brother) over when one of our parents or another adult (aunt, uncle, grandparent) was not at home.

Is that useful?

that doesnt sound that tough.

sounds like you're just whining for the sheer fucking hell of it

Nope.

Those are your examples?

Then...what was the point of this thr...

Oh, never mind.

I think KT's definition of tough love is the opposite of being given a job and house by your parents.

Could it be that when you grow up in an atmosphere free of conflict, you then have to go out into the world and create some just to feel you're alive?

I really do not like where this thread is going, so I am shutting this one down.
