Whatever happened to the Federation in the future...

At the very least, we know Georgiou has to make it back, for the Section 31 series.
Do we know for a fact it takes place in the 23rd Century? I've been wonder if maybe she was going to end up finding and joining a 32nd century version, or maybe even starting one herself.

^ If the DSC season 3 trailers are any indication, the Federation as of the 32nd century is so diminished and weak as to be utterly insignificant. They probably wouldn't even need a Section 31.

Although I suppose Georgy could indeed start one of her own.

That said, perhaps the Section 31 series might involve Prime Georgiou? Resurrected, somehow? (yes, I iknow L'Rell mentioned eating her, but there's no proof that actually happened.)

Nah they've said it's Mirror Georgiou.

Shazad Latif has made enough comments to suggest he's been booked for the S31 series, to pretty much nail it on that it takes place in the 23rd century.

Could the seeds of the collapse of the Federation have begun after the events of Nemesis?

Picard said a line in the movie that made me wonder when he said they had various enemies trying to take bites at it so I wonder if the cracks were starting to form then after the events of that movie and into the future.

If he is in it, then I guess it probably will have to be in the 23rd Century. It seems a bit weird to me that they would have her go with the rest of the characters to the 32nd century, just for her to end up going back to the 23rd century by herself.

Unless he pops up in the 32nd century too, maybe his son stuffed him into a time crystal powered stasis box on Boreth because he wanted to see Michael again.

At the end of s2 23rd century starfleet wanted section 31 to be more transparent. Maybe having a different section 31 that operates more openly instead of protecting the federation at all costs is what leads to its downfall. At the end of the season Georgiou goes back to the 23rd century to fix section 31 and the federation with it.

I already regard Discovery as existing in it's own timeline. In any case, we saw in the series finale of TNG that a given future that you glimpse, like a Warp 13 Enterprise D at the dawn of the 25th Century, may or may not happen. There will be timelines with a Galactic Federation of the 32nd Century, a timeline where the Borg triumph and control the Galactic Collective and a timeline where Daleks from an alternative universe invade this universe and "exterminate!!!" the Federation and every one else.

All good things must come to an end and nothing lasts forever. Clearly it’s dark times and the general theme is that the Discovery crew is meant to restore hope and maybe even begin to recover the Federation.

At least they are stealing from another Roddenberry property.

I'm hoping the Federation has been dissolved and Discovery has to reform it. Cause the 22nd century saw the birth of the federation, the 23rd century saw its rise and expansion, the 24th century saw it at its height but after watching the First two episodes of Picard, I'm starting to think that the Federation (and Starfleet) have lost its way, similar to in Star Wars, how the Republic became corrupted and maniuplated by Palpatine. So it would be interesting if the events of Picard have a ramification with Discovery S3 despite being over 800 years apart.
