whatever happened to chakotay's son

dHunter333

Lieutenant

ok i know it turned out not to be his but i am surprised that they didn't bring him back years later

knowing voyager's writing, even though they are 15 years away, he'd show up, 20 years old (2 years later, no explanation)

lol

I think so, but it has been years since I watched it. Wasn't it determined in the end that the son wasn't Chakotays but the Tajs?

That would have killed any emotional concern Chakotay had for the child, and meant leaving him behind was a realistic and acceptable decision.

Voyager left Kazon space so that was why the character wasn't revisited.
Kes, Lindsay Ballad & the Voth still found them.

Voyager had a proment if somewhat questionable reputation in the Delta Quaderant. Making tracking them easier than you think because of it.

Chakoty had a Son? Must have missed that.

No, he didn't. Seska stole DNA from Chakotay, thought the child she conceived was created from that, and told him as much, but according to the EMH, the child was actually half Kazon, probably the Maj's (unless of course the good doctor lied to her).

A half Kazon half Cardassian character would have made an interesting addition at some point in the series, but I don't think it logically would have worked. I can just about stretch to Lyndsey Ballard finding Voyager after how ever many years with maybe some super-duper warp drive, but a mere infant finding its way across a quarter of the galaxy in Kazon technology would have been the stretch too far.

Just slightly off topic, but Seska dies after they cause the phaser feedback doohickey to backfire, no? Why exactly is Seska the only one to die, and a tiny vulnerable baby is unharmed? :p

Even though it's revealed the kid isn't Chakotay's, it's still a bit callous of him to not care for its wellbeing :p Maybe the writers were worried it would inherit tree-like qualities if it stayed on the ship...

IIRC there was talk of doing an episode in Season 7 that would have shown Cullah and his son, but obviously it never came to be. What story they could have told I'm not entirely sure.

Originally the baby WAS supposed to be Chakotay's, but Jeri Taylor rewrote Piller's story after he left so it wasn't his. She didn't like continuing stories so she wanted anything linking VOY back to the Kazon or Seska done away with.

The same thing happened to Jean-Luc Picard in the TNG episode "Bloodlines" where Jason Vigo endedup not being his son, because the producers believed that Picard having "a son" would have been baggage for the TNG films...hence killing off Shinzon too later on in Star Trek: Nemesis.

Heck, the presence of Alexander Roshenko was considered "baggage" for Worf too when the character made his transition from TNG to DS9, so the kid was left with his grandparents and later on joined the Klingon Defense Force.

For all we know, Seska's baby was originally intended to be Chakotay's all along, but the producers decided to change their minds and made the baby Maj Cullah Nystrom's so that the infant character wouldn't end up being baggage for future Chakotay episodes once USS Voyager left Kazon space.

Anyone else thinks it could be interesting to see him show up again older as a bad guy?

No.

DS9 did that with Toral, who happened to have been Duras's bastard son with a prostitute from TNG's "Redemption, Parts I & II," when they had him reappear as a young Klingon warrior in the DS9 episode "The Sword of Kahless."

In otherwords, Toral was just a one-dimensional stock villain in his appearance on TNG and DS9.

No need to revisit Maj Cullah Nystrom's son as an adult; a "return" or even a "revenge" episode would probably have gone the way of Kes's return in "Fury," so no. Definitely, NO. :borg:

I know what happened to his son!

He hooked up with the Borg Baby later on in life, had a few kids (quarter Kazon, quarter Borg, quarter Cardassian, quarter human), opened a coffee shop and lived happily ever after (apart from the odd occasion when one of his children would try and assimilate him).

Anyone else thinking SITCOM?

ROFL! Totally... Everyone Loves Kazon? Will and Borg? Two and a half Borg? :)
